  Quaoar
Quaoar is a newly discovered Kuiper Belt object, found in June 2002 by Chad Trujillo and Mike Brown at Caltech in Pasadena.
Quaoar is at about 42 AU away from us, more distant than Pluto and Neptune, which are both at about 30 AU.
Quaoar's orbit is also inclined to the ecliptic (the plane of the solar system), by about 8 degrees.

  Quaoar (deity)
Quaoar is the name of a creation deity[?] of the Native American Tongva people, native to the area around Los Angeles.
A planetoid was named after this deity following the International Astronomical Union rules which requires naming all planetoids after creation deities (see planetary nomenclature).
This planetoid was discovered in 2002 by astronomers Chad Trujillo[?] and Mike Brown[?] at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California.

 Quaoar
Quaoar ("kwah-oh-ahr", /kwA o Ar/) is a Trans-Neptunian object circling the Sun in the Kuiper belt, discovered in 2002 by astronomers Chad Trujillo[?] and Mike Brown[?] at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, California.
Quaoar is estimated to have a diameter of about 1,280 kilometres, which would make it the largest Solar System object discovered since Pluto and, indeed, the largest known minor planet.
Quaoar belongs to the Kuiper belt, a class of comet like icy objects orbitting beyond Neptune, pristine remnants from the solar nebula with much knowledge to yield.

Quaoar is estimated to have a diameter of 1260 ±190 km, which at the time of discovery made it the largest object found in the solar system since Pluto and, indeed, then the largest known minor planet (it was later supplanted by,,, Sedna and Orcus).
Quaoar's volume is somewhat more than all of the asteroids put together, it is about one tenth the diameter of Earth, one third the diameter of the Moon or about half the size of Pluto.
Quaoar is believed to be a mixture of rock and ice, like other Kuiper Belt Objects; however its very low albedo (estimated at 0.1 but still much higher than that of 20000 Varuna: 0.04) indicates that the ice has disappeared from its outer layers.
