These elements create a sound collision that is heavy on the techno and known as "hip-hop funk." There are a wide assortment of choices the band collectively put together, form girlish chants to rewound sounds to the smashing and deconstructing of walls.
The coordination the band has with complementing voices and sounds is impressive, especially since none of the songs sound contrived or overly articulated.
Quarashi has an ensemble of off-the-wall lyrics, and strange rhyming patterns.

Iceland's Quarashi sounds like one part Beastie Boy's and part industrial-strength hard Rock, making its U.S. debut with their CD Jinx.
One of the last songs on their Jinx is "Dive In," a techno ballad where Quarashi displays even more stylistic versatility.
Certainly not a one-note act, Quarashi showcases a smoother side on tracks like the mellow "Malone lives" and the lush "Copycat" and "Dive In.

Quarashi are an Icelandic rock/rap group that focuses mostly on the rap.
Despite the generic and contrived quality of the first two songs, Quarashi basically offers up an energetic sound that is a nod to the old-school rap days.
While Jinx is a hit-or-miss record, it still pounds the speakers harder than most of the mainstream rap out there today and it creatively outshines much of the current 'rock' scene as well.

Quarashi is originally Stoney's pack name, and the thing about that is that we had a show in '96 and we were like “Shit we gotta get a name!”.
Iit was the coolest name we could come up with but later on we found out that the surname or second name was for the prophet Mohammed the founder of Islam, and it's a very common name in the Arabic world.
There is no denying that the Chemical Brothers caused Quarashi's existence, to a point where you know my first songs were, well I was just trying to rip them off basically.

Quarashi (album) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quarashi is the debut hip hop album by the group of the same name, released on October 13, 1997 in Iceland (see 1997 in music).
Already popular in Iceland thanks to the EP, Switchstance, Quarashi released their first full-length album with more of the hip-hop infused rock, techno, and funk that brought them fame in the first place.
Richard Oddur Hauksson was credited on "The Egg Album" as the fourth member of Quarashi (as the DJ), which he also had been credited as on Switchstance, but today, he has faded into relative obscurity, due to the fact that most fans consider the original Quarashi line-up to be Sölvi, Hössi, and Steini.

Quarashi: Jinx - PopMatters Music Review
Instead of Moby, the brain behind Quarashi is Sölvi Blondal and his thick grooves, melodic sensibilities and often innovative, colourful sampling prove him to be a real talent.
The diversity continues with "Tafur" which is sung in Icelandic and combines a seductive hookline with some edgy rap to provide further distance between the band and other largely homogenized bands of the same ilk.
Obviously the re-makes of early Quarashi tunes tend to be more polished and commercially orientated than their predecessors, but the slamming metal crunch of "Copycat" is as raw as this genre gets.

Despite using a surname of the prophet Muhammed as a moniker, Quarashi hails from the land of Sigur Ros as opposed to Saudi Arabia.
Closer in sound to the Beastie Boys than Bjork, these Reykjavik natives are a hard-hitting, sample-happy rap-rock outfit whose lead voice Hossi Olaffson bears an uncanny vocal resemblance to former Rage Against The Machine firebrand Zack de la Rocha.
Other notable cuts include the funk-heavy "Tarfur" (supposedly the first rap joint written and recorded in Icelandic) and the infectious, over-the-top breakout single "Stick 'Em Up." JINX proves to be as exotic an outing as the land from which Quarashi hails.

Quarashi is straight from the Rage Against the Machine/Beastie Boys school of thought, though there is enough diversity on Jinx to keep things unpredictable.
The quartet leans more toward three MCs and one DJ than a hard rock band with rappers and flogging guitars, while beats alternate between drum machine and live percussion.

Certainly, when Quarashi pull out all of their experimental stops on "Tarfur," a percussion-heavy funk track that's recorded in Icelandic, or "Dive In," a techno ballad crooned by the band's jack-of-all-trades Hössi Olafsson, the results are fun.
