Québec City claims the believable title of "snow capital of the world." Yet the city is populated with a seemingly indomitable people that refuse to be driven indoors by the icy winters.
The city is located at a narrow spot along the St Lawrence River, on a broad east-west plain that extends from the Atlantic seaboard to the heartland of North America.
The city’s Plains of Abraham area is transformed into a winter playground for the family, with games, outdoor sports, a climbing wall, dogsled and sleigh races, downhill skiing for 5-8 year olds, snow rafting and a sugar shack (where boiling maple taffy is poured into troughs of snow for a popular sweet treat).

The narrow winding streets of the Old City were filled with revelers bundled up in brightly colored winter wear, many of them pulling their children through the snow on small sleds.
This was truly a winter wonderland, the great falls frozen into undulating patterns of ice while a portion of icy waters cascaded over the frozen facade of the 272 foot cliff.

Carnival started Friday night, so during the day we walked around the old part of town (we loved it).
The carnival has 3 sites, the main one is on the Plains of Abraham, the other one is across the street from that (both of these up near the Citadel), and the other is down at the Place D'Youville.
I like to always be on the go, but with the weather being so cold, after spending a few hours at the carnival, taking a break for lunch, and doing more carnival things or touring around, we were pretty much ready to spend some quality indoor time by early evening.
