OTTAWA -- Prime Minister Stephen Harper may have recognized the existence of the `Quebecois nation' but don't ask him to define it.
He says it was foisted on the federal Parliament as part of a political tactic by the Bloc Quebecois.
Harper consulted then-Liberal leadership candidate Stephane Dion on the wording of the motion, which passed the house of Commons by a vote of 266-16.

  Le Bloc Québécois
Quebecois, in particular, must redefine the degree, the structures, and the conditions of their participation in the Canadian system.
The country they carry in their minds and hearts is the present Canada, in which English is clearly predominant and which admires and is nostalgic for the British Crown.
The fact that Quebecois MPs are usually members of pan-Canadian parties within which they are but a minority only makes the problem worse.

The Turner Report » Quebecois nation
Quebecois think it is solely up to them to say what they are and what they will be.
So 2/3 of the province of Quebec would insist on separation right there, so the separatists would have their work cut out for them if they do insist on taking their nationhood outside of the Canadian identity, and so we should have nothing to fear from simply recognizing that they are a nation within Canada.
The Quebecois cannot win if they do insist on separating, but it is my view that the vast majority do not want to separate, but simply want to be recognized as a distinct people group within Canada.

The Canadian National Newspaper: Bloc Quebecois borrows Nazi techniques
Similarly, the Bloc Quebecois led by Gilles Duceppe, in confederacy with the Quebec provincial Parti Quebecois, has selectively used left-wing, to cover their essentially racist orientation.
These elites have consolidated their power with the use of a similarly racist prism held by owners of Quebec media organizations that Esther Delisle had revealed, and in a milieu of "fluff" journalism owned by the political apologists of an overall Canadian racism, presented by mass-media organizations in other parts of Canada.
The Bloc Quebecois and Parti Quebecois criticize the provincial and federal Liberals for worsening social conditions in Quebec, which in fact, have been precipitated by "Free Trade", that is also hypocritically supported by Bloc and Parti Quebecois elites.

MAR | Data | Assessment for Quebecois in Canada   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Currently, support for separatism is low, and in January of 2001, the charismatic Premier of Quebec Lucien Bouchard resigned in part because he felt the Parti Québéçois had become too concerned only with pure Québéçois — meaning the white decendents of people from France.
Charges of racism have always plagued the Quebecois nationalist movement, and it was a reason for Bouchard's resignation.
Moreover the Canadian government has changed its tone when dealing with Quebec, becoming more assertive about the costs of separation.

MONTREAL – A motion passed by the House of Commons that says the people of Quebec form a nation within a united Canada is renewing an identity debate in the predominantly French-speaking province.
French remains the official language and the term Quebecois has traditionally referred to people who could trace their ancestors back to the first French settlers of the 1600s, fur traders and farmers who toiled in the fields along the banks of the St. Lawrence River.
But he said Andre Boisclair, leader of the separatist Parti Quebecois in the National Assembly, the provincial legislature in Quebec City, has not yet proven to be that leader.
