QUEEN'S IS ONE OF THE OLDEST constituent Colleges of the University of Oxford.
The queen in whose honour the College was named is Edward III's wife Philippa, whose chaplain Robert de Eglesfield founded the College in 1341.
Elizabeth I granted the College a new Charter in 1584, and George II's wife Caroline contributed towards the building of the Front Quadrangle in the mid-eighteenth century.

This is a letter sent to Queens College, Oxford to which I have now received a positive reply dated 11-01-06.
In the preface there is a section if I may quote----"To describe the personal appearance of a monk of the fourteenth century may appear absurd; but there exists an initial painting in the M.S. of Queen's College, which has so truthful an appearance, that we are inclined to give credence to its being a portrait.
The miniature is in the initial A of Athiniensium the first word of his preface: and represents a monk, rather under the middle age, in the Dominican Habit, seated on a low stool raised a step above the floor.

Myles Cooper, the second president of King's College (later Columbia University), 1763 to 1775, was born into comfortable rural circumstances in Cumberland County, in the north of England.
As preparation for the Anglican ministry, he became chaplain of Queens College in 1761, the same year as his ordination.
His only subsequent contact with King's College was to petition -- unsuccessfully -- the governors for his salary between his departure and the official close of the College a year later.

The first recorded Boar's Head procession was held at Queens College, Oxford in 1340 shortly after it was founded, and based on a story of an Oxford University student, while strolling in the forest reading the works of Aristotle, was charged by a wild and raging boar.
He cut off the head of the boar and brought it back to the college.
After the telling of this tale, the head of the boar was borne into a feast at Oxford.
