QAIA is continuing its investment program which includes improvements to terminals, service roads, air bridges and the fire station; we installed a new light coding docking system; and technical upgrading of flight information display, airfield lighting and baggage handling systems.
QAIA is served by 24 international airlines, the most popular of which are KLM with 3.6 percent of passengers in 1996, Egypt Air (3.6 percent), Middle East Airlines (3.1 percent) Gulf Air (3 percent), and Saudi Arabia Airlines (2.7percent).
Most of QAIA’s rescue, emergency and firefighting services are based at the main fire station (or civil defense building) near the southern runway, but to fire trucks and their crews are permanently stationed at the satellite substation near the northern runway.

QAIA Director Yousef Abu Murad said a sixth aircraft that was not moved would undergo maintenance work to render it operational, upon a request from the Iraqi side.
The future of these planes currently hinges on the decisions to be taken by the Iraqi government, the airport director added.

It's not the airport structure itself, it's the organisation, the attitude of many of the people who work there, and the unthinking, moronic processes that they have put into it, turning a reasonable, functional terminal into a chaotic shambles.
The airport is not particularly large, but has several air bridges and most flights will park at the terminal so you just walk off the plane, onto the jetway and into the building.
Amman airport is about thirty minutes drive from the city, even at night it takes 20-25 minutes.

I had the chance to do some regional traveling lately and must say that His Majesty’s King Abdullah’s criticism of quality of service at the Queen Alia International Airport is right on the spot.
Technology alone will not solve the airport’s serious problems which are of physical, administrative, human resources and logistical problems (not to forget dirty WC’s to baggage trolleys that cost 1 JD to rent).
But if the basic services at the airport are upgraded (and upheld) then technology-based services will an impressive plus.

AMMAN — The Queen Alia International Airport (QAIA) and two border crossing points will start using passport scanning equipment today to minimise the waiting period for travellers, a senior official said on Saturday.
"The immigration departments at QAIA, and the Ramtha and Omari border points will start using this technology on Sunday so travellers will not have to queue up for long periods," Interior Minister Awni Yarvas told The Jordan Times.
In May this year, His Majesty King Abdullah instructed officials to adopt immediate measures to facilitate travel and custom procedures at airports and border crossings.
