This was an enormous county, including the northern part of New York State as well as all of the present State of Vermont and, in theory, extending westward to the Pacific Ocean.
The eastern boundary of Tryon County was approximately five miles west of the present city of Schenectady, and the county included the western part of the Adirondack Mountains and the area west of the West Branch of the Delaware River.
In the county the population is spread out with 24.40% under the age of 18, 8.30% from 18 to 24, 26.60% from 25 to 44, 24.00% from 45 to 64, and 16.80% who are 65 years of age or older.

Queens, the most ethnically diverse county in the United States, is geographically the largest of the five boroughs of New York City.
Queens County is in the western part of Long Island and includes a few smaller islands, most of which are in Jamaica Bay and form part of Gateway National Recreation Area.
The part of Queens County that was not annexed to New York City, consisting of the towns of North Hempstead and Oyster Bay and all of the Town of Hempstead except the Rockaway Peninsula, was constituted as the new Nassau County in 1899.

The county was mostly settled by English immigrants, under the authority of the Dutch Government during the last 20 years of its existence.
The eastern extremity of Long Island was claimed by the English colonies of New England; and the boundary line was the subject of a long and angry dispute, which was never entirely settled until the final subjugation of New York by the British in 1664.

The courts of the county were originally holden for the most part at Hempstead, at which place the governor on various occasions ordered meelings of the delegates from the different towns.
By the act of the Assembly in 1683, by which the counties and towns upon Long Island were organized and established, the county courts were required thereafter to be held at the village of Jamaica.
They were held there for about seven years in the old stone church which stood in the middle of the present Fulton street, opposite Union Hall street.
