Queenscliff is a small town that lies on the Bellarine Peninsula.
Victoria Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, Empress of India Victoria (Alexandrina Victoria) (24 May 1819–22 January 1901) was a Queen of the United Kingdom, reigning from 20 June 1837 until her death.
Fort Queenscliff was built between 1879 and 1889, and operated as the command center for a network of forts around the bay.

Land sales began in 1853, the same year the name was changed to Queensliff by Lieutenant La Trobe, in honour of (Queen of Great Britain and Ireland and empress of India from 1837 to 1901 (1819-1901)) Queen Victoria.
The complex ceased operations as a fort in 1947, and has since been used by the (A permanent organization of the military land forces of a nation or state) army for administrative purposes.
The opening of a railway line to (Click link for more info and facts about Geelong) Geelong in 1879 brought increasing tourists to the area, and numerous luxury hotels were built to accommodate this.

 FURNEAUX GROUP - SHIPWRECKS
A boat was found on Badger Island that was believed, although not confirmed, to have come from the missing schooner, which was thought to have been wrecked when nearing her destination.
Was reported by the mate of the barque Victoria to have been a capsized vessel seen off Vansittart Shoals, Furneaux Group, 5 March 1883, but not positively identified.
In 1972 abalone divers discovered a wreck off Point Hicks, Victoria which was speculated to be the Result, but this was never confirmed and she could just as easily have come to grief anywhere in eastern Bass Strait.
