Queensland is often nicknamed the Sunshine State, since a sizable portion of the state is in the tropics.
West To the west, Queensland is bordered by the Northern Territory, at the 138° E. longitude, and to the south-west by the north-eastern corner of South Australia.

The first Clerk of the Queensland Parliament’s Legislative Assembly (from 1860 — 1908) was Lewis Adolphus Bernays, C.M.G, F.L.S., F.R.G.S. Having been appointed to the position aged 28, he proceeded to occupy it for 48 years, and in the process became by far the longest-serving Clerk in the Parliament’s history.
Bernays, who was born in London of German descent, had studied science and chemistry in England and had served in the New South Wales legislature.
He was a director of many Queensland companies and was associated with the Brisbane Board of Water Works for 44 years.
