In 2003 McFlynn moved to Conference rivals Morecambe FC for £14,000 and, despite scoring on debut, he was unable to cement a spot in the team and was released in 2005.
In his first season with Sydney FC McFlynn made 21 appearances and proved to be a strong and determined player.
He scored a memorable first goal for the club in round 5 of the 2005/06 season against the Queensland Roar in which he lobbed the Queensland Roar FC goalkeeper, Tom Willis, from 30 meters out to round off a 3-1 victory to Sydney FC.

The reply from the Roar came early, in the 49th minute when another Dilevski corner from the left this time found a surging Reinaldo who beat Noel Spencer to the ball and hit a header into the top of the net.

Just under 24 hours after Roar was rolled 1-0 by Adelaide United to drop from third to fourth spot on the ladder, Bleiberg confirmed his decision and made the briefest contact via text message with The Courier-Mail that read: "Agreed with all concerned not to talk until tomorrow".
But Saturday night's loss to arch-rival Adelaide, Queensland's second capitulation at home this season, appeared to be the straw that broke the camel's back for Bleiberg who handed in his notice yesterday which Oudendyk accepted.
