  Quenya - the Ancient Tongue
Quenya or High-elven is the most prominent language of the Amanya branch of the Elvish language family.
Quenya was the ultimate experiment in euphony and phonaesthetics, and according to the taste of many, it was a glorious success.
Quenya also has an extended infinitive which adds the ending -ta; when added to the infinitive of a basic verb, its ending -ë instead appears as -i-: While the simplest infinitive of the verb car- "to do, to make" is carë, its extended infinitive is thus carita.

 Quenya Course
What it does presuppose is a deep and serious interest on the part of the student, for this course does not aim to present only Quenya grammar as such, but also much of the underlying reasoning and deduction by which our present knowledge of Quenya has been meticulously extracted from the primary sources.
I do try to present the structure and grammar of Quenya in an attractive fashion, but the student must have no fear of "technicalities"; this course is all about technicalities.
If you want to "learn Quenya" simply because you would like to coin a few cool Elvish names to be used in role-playing, chances are that you are in no way prepared to delve into the amount of information here presented.

Sometimes we can find help in The Qenya Lexicon, the earliest Quenya dictionary, but the words from the Lexicon are usually obscure, because Tolkien kept changing the structure of his beloved Quenya and its early form (usually called Qenya) is somewhat different to the Quenya as recorded in, say, Namárie.

Quenya, a professional fictional language, was developed by J.R.R. Tolkien in 1917.
Descended from Primitive Elvish, Quenya is the chief of Tolkien's Elvish languages, used mainly in The Lord of The Rings and The Silmarillion.
Unfortunately, it was never a primary goal of Tolkien's to finish the design of Quenya, and his death left the vocabulary and grammar incomplete.

The ancient Quenya began its transformation in Galadisian Quenya at the time of the founding of The Empire of Greater Lothlorien.
Men and Elves agreed to use Ancient Quenya as the official tongue of the empire because to the Elves it retained all the qualities of being Elvish but at the same time it had a much simpler grammatical structure and was much easier for Men to learn to speak.

The most striking feature of Quenya is that it is a higly agglutinated language, meaning that words are regularly modified (usually by means of a suffix) to express gramatical function.
It is quite normal for one Quenya word to have the same meaning as an entire english sentence, for example, one could say "they will have seen it" in Quenya in a single word.

 Summary of the Quenya Grammar
Quenya has several cases, states of the noun that can indicate, for example, something belongs to someone or where something is. The cases actually tell us what the function of a word in a sentence is.
Quenya does not know any of such words, but indicates the same as these words do through putting an ending to a noun.
There are 9 Quenya cases of which we more or less know clearly what they stand for.

Quenya and Finnish are both like this in principle, but neither is a pure agglutinative language.
