Questionnaire Construction - Earl Babbie   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Questionnaires are essential to and most directly associated with survey research, but they are also widely used in experiments, field research, and other data- collection activities.
Squeezed-together questionnaires are disastrous whether they are to be completed by the respondents themselves or to be administered by trained interviewers.
Every questionnaire, whether it is to be completed by respondents or administered by interviewers, should contain clear instructions and introductory comments where appropriate.

Construction admits that it is, but Mercede contends that it is a nonunion double-breasted operation and not required to bargain collectively with the Council for its Local Union 665, Laborers' International Union of North America, AFL-CIO (Local).
When Construction replied to only 2 of 79 questions, the Union's attorney wrote on September 21 that the information was necessary to determine whether both Employers were sufficiently related as to be bound by Construction's agreements.
Construction was unclear what it wanted to do, either escape from the agreement or cure Nobili of his technical interpretations of the agreement.

AB A cross-sectional questionnaire design was used to investigate the relationship between social structure, self-conception, and well-being in 40 unemployed and 48 employed Ss (aged 18-37 yrs).
AB Evaluated the influence of questionnaire design and the appropriateness of validity tests on memory questionnaire validity, using 90 college students who rated their ability to perform various memory tasks.
It is suggested that low-to-moderate validity of metamemory questionnaires is not due to defective questionnaires or to a poor match of validity tests to questionnaire content but to people holding inaccurate beliefs about their actual memory performance.

 Question construction and questionnaire design
An important issue in question construction is ensuring that the response set reflects the question.
Questionnaire design is not researched as well as question design because of the wide variety of questionnaires.
Questionnaires can be personalized for respondents such that each respondent thinks the questionnaire is specific to him or her.

Some construction does not require a permit such as certain yard improvements including tennis courts, new vineyard plantings, permanent livestock corrals and the excavation of winery caves unless there is electrical construction associated with the project.
In some instances neighbors have alerted us anonymously to illegal construction because they know that it is unfair for them to be assessed for permitted new construction while their neighbor is not being assessed.
To locate assessable new construction that does not require a permit, the assessor mails a new construction questionnaire to the owners of new subdivision homes because most yard improvements are made within a year or two of a house being first occupied.

questionnaire design   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
When writing questionnaires that respondents will see, it is very important that you present a professional-looking document so that the respondents will know this is a serious research effort.
Remember when laying out your questionnaire that it will be printed on both sides of a page and formed like a booklet, so that the final number of pages will be a multiple of 4.
In general, you will begin your questionnaire with a question related to the subject of the research, one that is designed to capture the respondent’s interest without being threatening.

eLCOSH : Safety Hazards to Workers in Modular Home Construction
This report, based on observation, interviews, and a questionnaire, lists the hazards faced by workers that appear to be specific to modular home installation, recommends ways to improve worker safety, and suggests areas for future research.
Unlike a typical stick-built house that is constructed in phases, a modular home is 95% complete when it leaves the factory, so the material on the interior needs to be protected from the elements as soon as possible (see footnote 1).
The questionnaire was used to determine employers' and employees' modular home installation experience, as well as their training related to modular home installations and safety.

Sociology 586: Primary Data Collection and Survey Methodology   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
One of the reasons that surveys are widely used is that they give the analyst the ability to generalize to a larger population based on a series of statistical rules that govern that generalization.
Intuitively it would seem simple to ask people about the facts of their lives such as their height and weight, income and education, the number of times they have been married, and who is in their family.
When another individual is added to the questionnaire process, it introduces both the potential for additional error as well the advantage of complexity in the questionnaire.

 Question construction and questionnaire design
Technology is allowing for rapid advances in both question construction and questionnaire design.
The increased use of technology by telephone survey organizations has allowed for sophisticated questionnaires including complex screening and skip patterns.
However, mail surveys permit only limited navigation because self-administered questionnaires with difficult navigation patterns produce more item nonresponse and impose a heavier respondent burden.
