Bukidnon is the only province in Mindanao that does not have a coast line, it being in the north central part of the island.
Bukidnon became a part of Misamis Province as a municipality of the latter in 1850.
Formerly the Bukidnon Normal School, is one of the original eight regional normal schools or teacher-colleges throughout the country whose primary function is the pre-service preparation of quality elementary and secondary teachers.

In the south, a sugar mill is in Paitan, Quezon town and abaca is grown for export.

Busco's birth led to the displacement of the Manobos in Quezon, Bukidnon, as rich families (many of whom later became cronies of the late President Ferdinand Marcos such as the Lobregats, Benedictos and Nietos) acquired their ancestral land to plant to sugar cane.
In August 1999, Quemtras first attempted to occupy the property, but the company put up blockades at the entrance and the tribe was forced back, retreating to the Quezon town gym where they camped out for 15 days.
On March 14, 2001, two months after People Power 2 evicted President Joseph Estrada from Malacañang and installed Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as the new president, the Manobos were given back by government 2,093 hectares of the 12,000 hectares that they have long tried to reclaim.
