  Review: Logitech USB QuickCam Home
The QuickCam attaches to the bracket with a swivel mount which lets it turn to any angle, so mounting the bracket on the side or bottom edge of a monitor is fine.
The QuickCam can capture video in the 352 by 288 and 176 by 144 pixel CIF and QCIF formats, although it can't manage the 30 frames per second specified by CIF.
The QuickCam's official focus range is six inches to infinity, but it can actually focus in much closer - see the close-up shot of the ruler.

QuickCam Interface: plus PC-Parallel Port on a 68HC11
The 2 connectors for the QuickCam are mounted on the PPB; a DB-25 female parallel-port connector and a female 5-pin keyboard (also used for MIDI) connector.
The QuickCam Interface is defined in a very full 45-page document, and to get access to the interface specification I signed a non-disclosure to not share it.
The QuickCam has defined its own use of the PC parallel port (which is rather non-standard).

 Astrophotography with a QuickCam
After this, I built-in the round, "naked" Connectix BandW QuickCam PCB into plastic parts, added a part from a Barlow lens, so that the CCD can now be nicely and safely attached to my telescope, in the focuser, at the place where otherwise sits the lens.
The underlying explanation for this could be that the Connectix QuickCam is not cooled, so that it is not at a constant temperature during the whole observation run.
Remember that I had not removed the IR filter from the QuickCam, and that I use a brightness setting of 254, corresponding to an exposure time of 2.62 seconds (operating in transfer mode 1, to obtain an image size of 320 by 240 pixels).

Webcam comparison: Logitech QuickCam Pro 3000, Logitech QuickCam Express, Lifeview Robocam
The QuickCam stand is actually quite clever, though; it's a rubberised plastic jobbie, and a knurled metal plug screws into the bottom of the camera and sticks into a slot in the stand, giving you a perfectly serviceable pan/tilt mounting no more floppy and annoying than that used by any other webcam.
The CD that came with the QuickCam Pro 3000 had the 5.4.1 version of the Logitech camera software; the one that came with the QuickCam Express only had 5.3.2.
The QuickCam Express is the same distance from the target as the Pro 3000 was, but its lens isn't as wide angle.

 Macworld: Review: QuickCam Pro
The latest version of the camera that first sprouted under the Connectix family tree can't touch the image quality and sharpness of a digital still camera or a camcorder.
But the USB-only QuickCam Pro is more versatile than either device, ideal for snapping still images of your soon-to-be-auctioned Beanie Baby collection, for videoconferencing in conjunction with a product such as iXL's iVisit, for making QuickTime movies, or even for creating a Web cam.
But while its predecessors sat awkwardly in a chintzy plastic stand, the QuickCam Pro includes a slick base that can sit atop your monitor or, via a spring-loaded mechanism, clamp onto a desk or shelf.
