Quicksaving - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Quicksaving is the term used for saving the player's progress in a computer game by pressing a single key on the keyboard.
Some people consider the use of quicksave in a game to be a form of cheating since it allows the player to incrementally "inch" through a difficult level regardless of skill.
Quicksaving is usually a feature found in PC games and is often not present in console games.

Gamingforce Interactive Forums - Quicksave Vs. Savepoints   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-06)
Savepoints are easier to keep track of since they are usually denoted with a location and time in the game, while quicksaves are merely blips which you may not remember in the future when they are loaded from wherever you saved.
Bottom line: while quicksaves and saving anywhere have the potential to be abused, their presence doesn't make games too easy.
Games that have a quicksave feature -- limited or not -- tend to be more challenging (or give you the OPTION of making it extremely challenging), more open-ended, and give you much more freedom, including the ability to really screw yourself over.

Saving your game was so annoying in DX1, it takes forever and if you cut down your saves, if you die you you need to load the last save, the game should have some kind of checkpoint system so if you die you just re-start the level, or atleast there should be quick saves.
Baldur's Gate 2 (and all IE games) were pretty annoying because quicksaving displayed a "saving" (full)screen which took you out the game itself and it was quite long...

The game is brilliant as far as graphics and gameplay go, but it’s a real shame it has to be marred by the console style “checkpoint” save system and a set of incredibly cheap enemies.
Supposedly a quicksave feature is included in the 1.1 patch (there’s really no reason this should have been omitted from the retail version –quicksaving is nothing new, and any game that has ever omitted it has been harangued for it – i.e.
Quicksaving should improve the gaming experience quite a bit, so you won’t have to replay the same areas over and over again (most likely one of the reasons it’s said to be a 20 hour game), but it still can’t remedy the cheapness of its enemies.

For example, one of the "classic" autosave corruptions would occur when the game was saving during the middle of a teleport (like during a swordfight) -- one might speculate that some of the data, which was in the course of being updating by the swordfight, got saved incorrectly by the autosave.

The problem with the "ten-minute saving scheme," is, not only is it too long, but people would just wait around ten minutes and save, then complain about what a crappy savegame system it has.
