Quimper (Kemper in Breton, Corspotium in Latin) is a commune of Brittany in northwestern France.
Quimper is the préfecture (capital) of the Finistère département.
Quimper, the capital of the Département of Finistere, is situated in a pretty valley at the confluence of the Odet and Steir river estuaries, in the southwestern corner of Brittany.

 Diocese of Quimper
Diocese of Quimper includes the Department of Finistère; as re-established by the Concordat of 1802 it embraces a large portion of the ancient Diocese of Quimper, also known as the Diocese of Cornouailles, the whole of the Diocese of St. Pol de Léon, and a small part of the Dioceses of Tréguier and Vannes.
Among those born in the Diocese of Quimper are: the Jesuit Bougeant (1690-1743), author of the "History of the Treaty of Westphalia"; the Jesuit Hardouin (1646-1729); the critic Fréron (1719-71), who opposed Voltaire; Abbé Legris Duval (1765-1819), who under the Revolution directed the "Congrégation" for a time, after having founded many charitable and philanthropic institutions.
In 1899 the religious congregations in the Diocese of Quimper had charge of 1 foundling hospital, 35 nurseries, 1 orphanage for boys, 9 orphanages for girls, 10 workrooms, 4 refuges, 29 hospitals, 166 district nursing houses, and 8 houses of retreat.

QUIMPER, capital of the ancient diocese, kingdom and later duchy of Cornouaille, is the oldest Breton city.
However, St Corentin suspected her of evil doings, and was proven right: at the urging of the Devil, the princess unlocked the gates, the city flooded and Gradlon escaped only by obeying Corentin and throwing his daughter into the sea.
There's no great pressure in Quimper to rush around monuments or museums, and the most enjoyable option may be to take a boat and drift down "the prettiest river in France" to the open sea at Bénodet.

 Quimper Pottery
Quimper (pronounced kem-pair), located in northwestern France in the province of Brittany, has been a pottery town since the days when the area was part of the Roman Empire.
One of the U.S. distributors of Quimper pottery, the husband and wife team of Sarah and Paul Janssens of Stonington, Connecticut, all of a sudden found themselves with nothing to distribute.
To this day, all of their pieces are hand made in Quimper and are individually decorated without the use of decals or transfers.

The production of Quimper began in the late 1600s at the Bosquet factory named for its owner, Jean-Baptiste Bosquet.
Two other families joined in the production of Quimper in the early 1700s, Eloury and Dumaine.  While these three factories continued to produce Quimper into the 20th century, they did go through some changes.
At the beginning of the 20th century, HB, Porquier-Beau, and Henriot were the three factories producing Quimper.
