In 1871 Hogg married Alice Anna Graham, the daughter of the collector William Graham of Urrard, Perthshire.
The house was renamed Hogg, Curtis and Campbell.
In 1877 James Chapman asked Hogg to give JW a letter of introduction to his brother James McGarel Hogg, who was Chairman of the Metropolitan Board of Works (transcription">#02158).

Douglas McGarel Hogg, 1st Viscount Hailsham, PC (28 February 1872 - 16 August 1950) was a British Conservative lawyer and politician.
Hogg was the son of the merchant and philanthropist Quintin Hogg.
He was one of the foremost advocates of his age, and as Attorney-General piloted through the House of Commons the Trade Disputes Act of 1927, which reaffirmed and fortified the rule of law after the general strike.

Hogg was the son of the merchant and philanthropist Quintin Hogg, seventh son of Sir James Weir Hogg, 1st Baronet, whose eldest son Sir James Macnaghten MacGarel-Hogg, 2nd Baronet was created Baron Magheramorne in 1887.

His mother was a judge's daughter from Nashville, Tenn. When his father died in 1950, Hogg inherited the title, which consigned him to what he called the "political ghetto" of the House of Lords, the unelected upper house.
He renounced the title in 1963 when he had a chance of succeeding Harold Macmillan as prime minister, but lost out to Alec Douglas-Home.
