Quorn is sold (largely in Europe) as a meat substitute or imitation meat.
Quorn is made from the soil mold Fusarium venenatum strain PTA-2684 (previously misidentified as the parasitic mold Fusarium graminearum).
In this form Quorn has a light brown colour and a mild flavour vaguely akin to a nutty beef, and is suitable for use as a replacement for meat in many dishes, such as stews and casseroles.

Once the Quorn has marinaded long enough, chop the onion and stir-fry it in the mixed herbs and some oil for about 2 minutes on a high heat.
To coat the Quorn in batter, beat the second egg and scatter some flour on a separate plate.

CSPI applauded Quorn’s creators for trying to market a nutritious meat substitute with a low impact on the environment, but insists that it be labelled honestly and studied more thoroughly.
