Quote whore - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"Quote whore" or "blurb whore" is a clearly pejorative term used by some movie reviewers to describe other critics who provide reviews well in advance of a movie's release and whose reviews are uniformly positive.
Many "quote whores" are perceived as sharing positive, quotable reviews in exchange for free junkets, food, movie-related trinkets and other items of value—or, indeed, free advertising for their own publication.
One reviewer who was widely labeled a quote whore was David Manning, whose quotations often appeared on promotional posters for Columbia Pictures.

 The Whore of Babylon
In another tract, Hunting the Whore of Babylon, we looked at nine arguments given by fundamentalist Dave Hunt for his claim that the Catholic Church is the Whore of Babylon from Revelation 17—18.
This passage tells us several things about the Whore: (1) She is an international power, since she "sits on many waters," representing different peoples (17:15), and she has committed fornication with "the kings of the earth," and she has inflamed "the dwellers on earth" with her fornication.
Continuing in chapter 18, John sees the destruction of the Whore, and a number of facts are revealed which also show that she cannot be the Catholic Church.

In the University of Chicago Alumni magazine, Amy M. Braverman has an excellent profile of Robert Thompson, Syracuse’s trustee professor of radio, television, and film in the S. Newhouse School of Public Communications and founding director of the Center for the Study of Popular Television.
Thompson is better known as being the best quote whore in the business -- seriously, the could be asked to comment on wallpaper paste -- or That 70's Show -- and he'd come up with something worth putting in the first two paragraphs of a story.
UPDATE: Thompson might be the most prolific quote whore ever, but I'm pretty sure Virginia Postrel will win the award for most profitable.

He could have supplied the glowing quotes, and they could have returned home intact with their celebrity interviews.
Just this weekend, the ads for "What's the Worst That Could Happen" had quotes saying, "A super-cool comedy!" and "Martin Lawrence is the man! Danny DeVito is terrific!" The curious thing about these quotes is that they were not attributed to ANYBODY.

eFilmCritic - EARL DITTMAN EXPOSED — Film Criticism’s Greatest Shame
You might see SSG Syndicate quoted for movies from time to time (certainly not as often as Dittman) and wonder what exactly SSG Syndicate is. Well as you can see for yourself right here (http://www.susangranger.com) SSG Syndicate is actually a home-made website with some movie reviews on it.
The ad that is using his quote right now is for the 2003 model, an action that could be seen as a blatant act of dishonesty in advertising.
K-19 featured two quotes; a long, adulatory review from Dittman including sentences like “Harrison Ford is an extraordinary actor who gives a passionate, Oscar-caliber performance in a magnificently moving motion picture,” and the one-word blurb of “masterful” from aging CNN host Larry King.

Jim Hill : MouseWatch: Tis a pity that he's a "quote whore"
To explain that (admittedly) offensive term: A "quote whore" is a critic who specializes in writing reviews that have extractable quotes.
Look to quotes that the narration attributes to "critics" rather than a specific well known critic, or large quotes followed by tiny illegible type stating the reviewer's name.
Stupid Puns - If an ad quotes a reviewer you know to be a good writer, but the quote is a groan-worthy, obvious pun you're sure he or she would never stoop to, chances are you're right.
