 USC-MSA Compendium of Muslim Texts
Unlike the Sunnah, the Qur'an is quite literally the Word of Allah, whereas the Sunnah was inspired by Allah but the wording and actions are the Prophet's.
It is an obligation - and blessing - for all who hear of the Qur'an and Islam to investigate it and evaluate it for themselves.
Note that any translation of the Qur'an immediately ceases to be the literal word of Allah, and hence cannot be equated with the Qur'an in its original Arabic form.

This is not always the case in the Quran, for although many of the shorter Suras are confined to a single topic or incident, it is not uncommon to find other Suras which deal with most of the subjects of the Quran.
If we assess the Quran as we would assess a novel by Dickens or a play by Shakespeare, and proceed to grade the Quran upon whether it conforms to the style in these works, then the Quran would appear to be very odd and in a sense haphazard.
With the Quran this is largely irrelevant, for it is possible to start reading the Quran from any chapter and not feel at all out of touch.

How to Approach Reading the Quran   (Site not responding. Last check: )
In order to understand what the Quran says about something it is of extreme importance to begin with the understanding of the context in which it is stated and whether there are other statements, which appear to be saying something different.
The Quran and the statements and example of the Messenger Muhammad (peace be upon him) are Islam's constitution.
In the case of the Quran, in particular, and because the whole spectrum of possible scenarios of life and belief are presented in such a condensed fashion and unique style it is highly likely that someone, untrained in its study, might misunderstand some of its edicts.

The current Quran is, in fact, mutilated and corrupted to such an extent, as we shall further prove in subsequent pages, that it is no longer worthy of faith and acceptance as the complete Quran taught in the beginning by Muhammad himself.
