Qutaibah bin Muslim - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Qutaibah was granted the governor-ship of Khorasan (now part of Iran) in 704 and thus came into the command of a large standing army of about 50,000 Arab troops.
Many of the territories Qutaibah conquered were incorporated into the province of Transoxiana “which lies beyond the Oxus”.
Though Qutaibah himself was primarily concerned with the military administration of the conquered territories, his successors ultimately achieved the Islamization of the heretofore primarily Buddhist peoples of those regions.

Muslims can take just pride in the fact that Islam established the sanctity of life, honour, and property in times of war, and made rules for the conduct of war and ensured their enforcement, centuries before the West declared them to exist in the various present-day international instruments.
The case of Qutaibah bin Muslim also demonstrates the strict discipline and control under which the Muslim armies were kept.
The violent Muslim reaction does not seem to serve any purpose except to cement the Muslim image as one of an extremist and emotional people, desperate enough to resort to unlawful means of conduct.
