PARAMETERS, US Army War College Quarterly - Spring 2007
Qutbism is not a structured body of thought from any single person (despite its name), source, time, or sect; rather it is a fusion of puritanical and intolerant Islamic orientations that include elements from both the Sunni and Shia sects of Islam that have been combined with broader Islamist goals and methodologies.
Qutbism is structured on a common foundation of puritan Islamist orientations such as Wahabbi, Salafi, and Deobandi.
Understanding Qutbism, exposing and discrediting it as an extremist theology and strategy is the most direct course to the defeat of the Islamic-Fascist movement’s center of gravity and victory in the War on Terrorism.

Qutbism is named for the Egyptian radical Sayyid Qutb (pronounced SIGH-yid KUH –taab) (1906-1966) who himself was a protégé of the Pakistani journalist Abul Ala Maudoodi, and their collective ideas are sometimes called Maudoodi-Qutbism.
It is difficult to categorize their ideas collectively, as some scholars regard them as romantic idealists longing for a return to a "purer" form of Islam, and others regard them as the architects of all militant fundamentalism in Islam (Ruthven 2002).
Qutbism is also the primary ideology of Omar Abdel-Rahman, leader of an Egyptian terrorist group who assisted Bin Laden in Afghanistan.

The term Qutbee is sometimes used a name for followers of these ideals, but the term is often used as a negative label used by Wahhabis who disagree with the Muslim Brotherhood.
They base these views on the fact that there has never been a sect or group known of that only follows Sayyed Qutb.

What you say is true, however, the same applies, if not more so, to modernity, which (with the exception of liberalism, which has its own obvious problems) can be far more rigid and inflexible, not to mention intolerant and violent.
Muslim anti-semitism, suicide bombing, and Qutbism are also modern.
As far as I know, the only people out there that are defending the authenticity of revelation are Traditionalists like S.H. Nasr, Rene Guenon etc. I'm unaware of any modernists who are doing the same.

As such, it becomes clear for all to see that this revolutionary ideology of Qutbism was something new and imported to the lands of the "Wahhabis", and it is a call which is in direct confrontation with the call of the Salafis/"Wahhabis".
Of course the state-sanctioned Saudi Sheikhs are going to preach about peace and tolerance publically......if they preached what the Wahhabi movement REALLY taught, then the al-Saud would have a real problem on their hands.

Qutbism -, while the view that individual Jihad is contrary to Islam has a theological basis, history tells a very, very different story.
Since disproof can be no more than one example, I suggest that such evidence lies in the rejection of some of the more extreme forms of the lesser jihad, such as Qutbism, or the substitution of lesser jihad for the Haj in al-Turabi's version of Mahdist thought.
Your view appears to be that because some Islamic scholars reject the mainstream view, such fact shows that such aberrant positions were or are part of the mainstream view.

Your remarks about the Muslim Brotherhood do not negate anything I have said regarding them, and so the implication that they do is a dishonest and fraudulent one.
But Qutbism had its origins in the 1950s and 1960s, not the 1920s, so I think you are stretching it when you try to find causes for it in WWI.
Your claim of some jihad reflex among Muslims is subverted by the fact that Qutbism arose after about thirty years of partitioning, mandates and the implanting of Israel, which I won't be surprised functioned as a final straw.

Muslim opponents of the Jihadis (including mainstream Wahhabis) use this term to describe them, a designation Jihadis hate since it implies that they follow a human and are members of a deviant sect.
Adherents of the movement consider "Qutbi" to be a negative label and would much rather be called Jihadi or Salafi.
Calling the movement "Qutbism" would also remove potentially offensive words from the lexicon of public officials (like "Islamofascism") and disassociate the movement from Islam.

Given Kierkegaard’s seminal influence in the genealogy of Qutbism, the suicide bombers and all the rest were inevitable.
When we look at the suicide bomber, we are seeing our own existential sensibility, stripped of ornamentation and boiled down to its pure, uncut essence: freedom and the act.
