In the aftermath of his victory, the city of Buenos Aires was separated from the province and established as a federal district and national capital.
The province was, however, the center of another rebellion against the central government in 1861.
During the next decade the conquest of the Pampas as far as the Ro Negro was completed, and the threat of hostile Native Americans from that direction was eliminated.

This section of the northeasterly flowing Ro Limay forms the border between Neuqun Province (north of the river) and northwest Ro Negro Province (south of the river).
The south flowing Ro Collon Cura is seen merging with the Ro Limay near the center of the image.
The varying width of the Limay and Collon Cura Rivers (dark, linear features) create substantial reservoirs, constructed to produce hydroelectric power for Argentina.
