SEPTA goes out of it's way to promote the Regional Rail to tourists over the more convenient subway and trolley system.
SEPTA is currently considering running the line back out to Wawa, PA and if that is successful, possibly all the way back to West Chester.
This line used to run to Newtown, Bucks County, PA but was also cut short for a lack of diesel equipment(due to a horrific collision with a tanker truck in the early 80's at a grade crossing).

For example, the R1 Airport line might get a lot more riders if the train could get you to the airport in 15 minutes instead of 26.
On the R1, there are some sharp curves where it branches off from the NEC, but there's not much you can do about that.
It is currently used by freight trains for wide and high cars that can't use the SEPTA main line (via Glenside and Jenkintown).
