  Robinson R44
Robinson's R44 is probably the best helicopter in the world for personal ownership and it might also be the best helicopter for primary training.
Robinson uses a Lycoming O-540 engine in the R44 Raven I. The internal geometry and compressions of this engine are identical to a 260-horsepower engine for an airplane.
The R44 has two fuel gauges, one for the aux and one for the main tank; there is no way to switch between tanks and it would be nice if these quantities were electrically combined to reduce pilot workload.

Although the R44 is often billed as a direct replacement to the Bell Jet Ranger, and the MD 500 (which it is in come cases), it is not an equal.
Due to the fact that the R44 had only been in production for 4 years, they had not logged any appreciable number of flight hours to be compared to helicopters that were literally logging more than a million flight hours every single year.
At the conclusion of the R44 training, the instructor pilot from Robinson Helicopters issued the pilot a certificate of training after finding that the pilot's performance was satisfactory to fly the R44 as a 2-place helicopter for at least 50 initial hours.
