  Refugee Advice and Casework Service [Australia] Inc.
Since 1988, RACS has been aiding those with a well-founded fear of persecution in their home countries to secure the legal protection to which they are entitled under the United Nations Convention on Refugees and under Australian law.
In addition, RACS continues to accept meritorious cases in which the character of the work required falls outside the scope of its funding contracts with the government (such as visa cancellation review), and compelling matters that fall outside the capped government funding for community applications.

The purpose of the RACs is to improve collaborative relationships and to provide advice and recommendations to the Forest Service consistent with the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act of 2000 (the Act), which governs the RACs and the charter.

RACS said that it did not have accurate figures on the BSTs affected, but the present situation arose from the need to address the problems of the “old” BST program, including lack of selection, unsuitable registrars, lengthy time in unaccredited service positions and excessive time for surgeons to complete their total training.
RACS argued all BSTs had been told in 2000 about the requirement to secure an advanced training post in 2003, they could all have applied after two years of basic training and there was ample opportunity for BSTs to secure an advanced training position within four years.
RACS suggested trainees had been encouraged to re-think their surgical careers, knowing that it was a highly competitive business, and had to take responsibility for their own lives rather than waiting for RACS to make decisions for them.

The creation of Regional Advisory Councils (RACs) was one of the pillars of the 2002 reform of the Common Fisheries Policy in response to the EU and stakeholders’ desire to increase the latter’s participation in the CFP process.
The RACs are made up of representatives of the fisheries sector and other groups affected by the CFP while scientists are invited to participate in the meetings of the RACs as experts.
The RACs have also decided to establish an Inter-RAC Committee to deal with issues of common interest such as their participation in the Control Agency.
