RAE Bedford - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Royal Aircraft Establishment (Bedford) or RAE Bedford (later Royal Aerospace Establishment (Bedford) - Pearcy), based near Thurleigh and Sharnbrook, has been the site of major aircraft experimental development work.
Previously the home of the 306th Bombardment Group during the Second World War, it was often touted as a possible site for the third London Airport (long before Stansted Airport took on that role).
In the early eighties RAE Bedford oversaw the development of the Short Take Off and Landing STOL system for the Sea Harrier (the most visible part of which are curved ramps on the runways of Royal Navy aircraft carriers).

Bedford died out by the early 1800s, but its name lived on in larger plantations around it extending to the Savannah River.

The Bedford Incident (1965): Richard Widmark, Sidney Poitier, James MacArthur - PopMatters Film Review
In the case of The Bedford Incident, the decision to ignore the flness of Poitier's character suggests an attempt to create a unanimity of opposition against Finlander's darkly "patriotic" military zeal.
The narrative works primarily as a suspenseful thriller (and is notably advertised this way in the trailer) while also functioning as a warning about the dire consequences of military aggression in the name of patriotic duty.
The Bedford Incident consistently depicts the Captain's antagonism and militaristic impulses as deviant and pathological.
