RAF Barkston Heath is a Royal Air Force station near Grantham, Lincolnshire.
RAF Barkston Heath was opened in 1941 and was used by the 61st Troop Carrier Group of the United States Army Air Forces.
Currently it is home to the Joint Elementary Flying Training School, which provides elementary flying training for Royal Navy and Army Air Corps students as well as the RAF.

88 Sqd was the first of the B(I)8 equipped RAF Strike Squadrons having been formed at Wildenrath early in the same year.
WT339 departed for the Engineering Department at RAF Cranwell to be used as a ground instructional airframe with the G/I number 8198M and was struck off charge at the same time.

Upon completion of his Initial Officer Training at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell in April 1994, Derek undertook Elementary Flying Training on the Firefly aircraft at RAF Barkston Heath and Basic Flying Training on the Tucano aircraft at RAF Linton-on-Ouse.
At the end of 2000, Derek was posted to the Jaguar Operational Conversion Unit (OCU) at RAF Coltishall in Norfolk.

The man, who was in his 70s, had cycled across the runway at RAF Barkston Heath, Lincolnshire, to collect his aircraft as a huge storm broke.
He was hit by one of two lightning bolts and was later pronounced dead on arrival at hospital in Grantham.

Well, the initial phase is over and I’m already moving 200 miles to my next “home” for the next 3 months, RAF Cranwell in Lincolnshire, England.
I’ll be flying from a smaller airfield very near to it, RAF Barkston Heath, but Cranwell will be where I stay due to accomodation shortages or whatever, I’m not sure.
