Plans for RAF Cosford and the surrounding area, outlined in a document called “A Vision for Cosford”, was launched at the House of Commons earlier this month.
Cosford is competing for the £600 million investment against RAF St Athan in South Wales and a decision on the final location is due to be made by the Ministry of Defence in October.

  Science Fair Projects - RAF Cosford
RAF Cosford is a Royal Air Force station in Shropshire, just to the northwest of Wolverhampton and next to Albrighton.
RAF Cosford opened in 1938 as a joint aircraft maintenance, storage and technical training unit.
There is also the Aerospace Museum at the site, which is a branch of the RAF Museum, displaying a unique collection of research and development aircraft, along with collections of missiles and airliners.

Cosford Ladies were the first to make the breakthrough on 11 minutes with neat football leading to a pass through the middle for their striker to run onto from which she coolly slotted the ball home.
Cosford began to get the upper hand for the remainder of the half and the pressure told when on 43 minutes the Cosford side scored again.
The RAF girls came out full of spirit for the second half and started to play some good football but were unable to make their chances count.

 55th/0M1 Entry at 1Radio School Cosford Opening
Born in 1943, No 1 Radio School was moved from Cranwell to RAF Locking in 1950 and was absorbed there into No 1 S of TT RAF Cosford in 1999.
Apart from 3 years at the school at Cranwell, I had completed a tour when its home was RAF Locking and had retired from RAF Cosford in 1974, having been responsible for Foreign and Commonwealth Officer training in what was then No 2 S of TT.
RAF Cosford's Queen's Colour was also on parade, which brought back memories of my own participation in the parade in the early 70's when Cosford was first honoured with the freedom of the City of Wolverhampton.

The RAF Ladies Representative football team continued their winning start to the season with a 2-0 victory over Cosford Ladies at the RAF Cosford Stadium recently.
Cosford provided a scare after 20 minutes when Cpl Steph Young was required to make an excellent save from a free kick.
Although the RAF kept the pressure on for the rest of the game the score remained at 2-0 to the RAF.

One cannot get any closer than Cosford is to the M54; the M54 is within a few miles of the M6, the north-south trunk road that leads to the south, to the M42, to the M1 and to London.
The railway passes within a few hundred yards of the entrance to Cosford; although the station is not served by a large number of passing trains, it is capable of coping with more regular trains.

Cosford’s short runway means that static aircraft are generally limited to helicopters, light training types and warbirds.
Cosford was one of the select venues to benefit from the RAF Role Demonstration.
While Cosford will never be a show for the “purist” like RIAT, Flying Legends or Kemble, it is very good at what it does, namely attracting people who are neither regular airshow attendees nor aviation enthusiasts per se, and for that the organisers are to be commended.

RAF Cosford and RAF Stafford are set to become part of a West Midlands ‘Super Garrison’ as soldiers return to Britain from Germany, the Ministry of Defence has revealed.
The death knell on storage and distribution operations at RAF Stafford was sounded last year, but the base is currently being kept alive by the new 22 Signals Regiment.

Cosford is served by a regular train service to a station alongside the RAF base and combined rail and admission tickets can be purchased from Arriva Trains Wales.

The RAFFU Autumn Series was held at RAF Cosford from 25 – 26 Oct 03 by kind permission of the Station Commander.
Representing the women, Flt Lt Sarah Chambers from RAF Innsworth showed that the coaching she’d received from the current men’s epee champion was paying off as she swept through the field to take the 3rd seeding.
RAF Leuchars amassed a total of 38 points with 3 fencers, however with 7 fencers and good placings in the events, RAF Cosford won the trophy with 47 points.

The best Cosford shows always pulled something out into the light and it was great to be able to shoot 'em.
Cosford is a small venue and there were a record number of people.
A few annoyances such as irresponsible parents and the blinding sun position during the morning/early afternoon, but their not much Cosford can do about that! One thing that was nice was parking visiting aircraft on the grass in front of the crowd.

He started working part-time at the Cosford museum in 1979, helping out the curator Derek Eastwood, who was a friend from his air force days.
The watershed came in 1998 when the Cosford Aerospace Museum, as it had been called, thanks to its improved facilities reached the status of being a national museum - the RAF Museum, Cosford - bringing with it financial stability as it became funded entirely by the Ministry of Defence.
But the staff and volunteers won’t be seeing the last of him, as he will be keeping his hand in by working part time in the air show office at adjoining RAF Cosford.

The Bath Rugby and England centre flew from RAF Wittering in Lincolnshire to to RAF Cosford near Telford with the precious cargo he and his team-mates won in Sydney on 22nd November last year.
The pilot, Squadron Leader Simon Jessett of RAF Strike Command at Wittering — the Home of the Harrier — said: “I am a huge rugby fan and I feel privileged to have flown Mike and to contribute to the Sweet Chariot Tour.

 Visit to RAF Museum Cosford
On Friday March 23rd, 2001, I visited the RAF Aircraft Museum at Cosford, Shropshire.
Little is known of the early history of this aircraft, one author has suggested that it may have been seized in Japan by US forces following the Japanese surrender and subsequently transferred to the Allied Technical Air Intelligence Unit at Johore, Malaya, in late 1945, although this has not been confirmed.

 The Learning Lab - Where Technology Enables Knowledge
Representatives from RAF Cosford's Technology Based Training (TBT) section visited Telford's Learning Lab recently to see the variety of e-learning technologies available.
The visit was hosted by Professor Steve Molyneux, Director of the Learning Lab which is located at the University of Wolverhampton's Telford campus, and followed a recent trip he organised for visitors from the US Pentagon and National Guard Bureau to visit RAF Cosford.
Speaking about the visit, Professor Molyneux said: "We were delighted to show RAF Cosford's TBT section around the Learning Lab which provides a showcase of the latest learning technologies.

Andrew Bates reports: Unofficially billed as the ‘Midlands largest airshow’, this years event at RAF Cosford in Shropshire once again attracted a vast crowd, which, apart from the fine and sunny weather, was probably attributable to the extensive ground displays, stalls, and other attractions (including a Sunday market!).
Until recently known as the Aerospace Museum, the RAF Museum at Cosford is home to a unique collection of aircraft, which basically fall into one of three categories; Research and Development, Civil and Military Transports, or Warplanes.
As far as visiting aircraft were concerned, Cosford has never been renowned for long lines of static aircraft due to the short runway and limited ramp space.
