 RAF Signals Museum
The Commandant at RAF Henlow at that time, Air Commodore Mike Davison, had in previous years also been the Commandant at Locking and was keen for the collection to find a home, preferably at Henlow which has had good links with radio, radar and electronics for many years.
At the time, the former Roman Catholic Church at Henlow was not in use and this building was allocated to the project and in due course several packing cases arrived, were duly unpacked and this formed the basis of what can be seen today.
RAF Henlow History Books are on sale at a very reasonable price and a very attractive Museum souvenir pen is also available.

RAF Waddington were second Blunden 56 min 32 sec, Berrell 61 min 47 sec, Mark Heaton 65 min 48 sec and 67 min 52 sec giving a total of 85 points.
Their team included RAF triathlon specialists Martin Ball 61 min 14 sec, Marc Saggers 62 min 58 sec, Nige Porter 68 min 08 sec and Graham Menzies in 68 min 41 sec to score a total of 157 points.
Becky Griffith from RAF Brize Norton was second but first RAF finisher in 71 min 15 sec, and in third overall in the ladies race was D Bryant from Biggleswade AC 71 min 17 sec.

The RAF Ladies Champion was Flt Lt Beccy Screech of RAF Honington finishin 5th overall.
The prizes were presented by the PEdO RAF Honington Flt Lt Trev Down in the Centurion Club where everyone's thirst was quenched with light refreshments, thanks to Cpl Lisa Corke who was a superb 'host' and their hunger was satisfied with the magnificent cakes provided by Cat Sqn.
The RAF is not able to enter a team for this event so all of the individuals have to run for their civilian clubs.

 Results
With 7 ladies entered, it was Cpl Debbie MacDonald (Henlow), returning to fencing after some considerable time away, who took the No.1 seeding after the initial pool.
The Jerry Cup was introduced as an incentive to individual units to encourage and bring fencers to RAF competitions.
Once again the Senior Championships are over for another year, and after last year’s call to encourage more female fencers appears to have been successful, I find myself this year asking that we encourage more male fencers to attend.

I was a student at the RAF Staff College in 1969 and was then appointed to 'exchange' duties with the USAF.
I left the RAF in 1986 at the age of 52 and spent 10 years with GEC-Marconi before joining the Air Historical Branch to write this history.
The RAF signals staff is reduced to just one branch, and Signals Command reverts to Group status once again - 90 Group in Strike Command.

 History of Aviation at Hendon - Part 6
1968 saw the 50th Anniversary of the formation of the RAF, and a small display was held to celebrate the occasion.
On 15 November 1972 the RAF Museum was opened by Her Majesty The Queen.
New uses will be found for the former RAF station and the buildings but the RAF Museum will continue to preserve Hendon's links with its aeronautical heritage.

 Vickers Virginia
This Vimy or Virginia pilot’s control wheel was acquired from the former RAF Cardington in 1970.
It was written off when it undershot on landing at Henlow, hitting some telephone cables in the process, on 4th September 1941.
The Virginia VII and X had the Napier Lion V/VB engine; Napier Lion V (accession number 65/E/6), acquired from the former RAF Technical College at RAF Henlow, is on display in RAF Museum London’s Historic Hangars.

Specialist engineering training for general duties officers was undertaken at the Officers Engineering School, formed at RAF Henlow in 1924.
This subsequently became, in 1947, the Royal Air Force Technical College absorbing, in 1949 and 1950 respectively, the separate Schools of Armament and Signals (previously the Empire Air Armament School at Eastchurch and the Empire Radio School at Debden).
In January 1966, the Royal Air Force Technical College at RAF Henlow closed, reforming as the Department of Engineering within the Royal Air Force College, housed in the new purpose-built Trenchard Hall.

 RAFVR Units
Most RAFVR personnel were absorbed into normal RAF units but a few dedicated RAFVR units have been formed, although these have now been absorbed into the RAuxAF.
The Air Experience Flights are commanded by Regular RAF officers staffed by a combination of regular volunteer and RAFVR(T) pilots, whilst the Volunteer Gliding School/Squadrons are completely manned by RAFVR(T) and ATC personnel.
It is now located at RAF Wyton, being equipped with Grob Tutor T Mk 1s.

The plain clothes "spooks" that we encountered during our visit to Rudloe last Summer were undoubtedly concerned with protecting the Controller Defence Communications Network (CDCN) facility located nearby and not Rudloe Manor with its' "UFO links".
