The future of RAF Leeming following the disbandment of it's remaining Tornado squadron is not clear at present, however the UK Ministry of Defence has pledged that it will remain in MOD hands, possibly moving to Army ownership.

A scheme was introduced at RAF Leeming in 1987 based on predictions of noise from the Tornado which was due to enter service at the base.
Leeming was resurveyed in 1998 following the reduction of one Tornado squadron which showed that the contours defined in 1992 were still valid.
RAF Leeming was reviewed during March 2005 and the results demonstrated that the numbers of aircraft movements had increased significantly since the survey in 1998, and accordingly recommended that a new NIGS survey should be conducted as ascertain the changes to the contour.

 Royal Air Force Future Plans
For the RAF, the cuts involve the loss of 130 aircraft by the end of 2007, comprising four complete frontline combat squadrons together with reductions for other units.
RAF Harriers have also been used for overseas deployments such as Northern Watch over Iraq, but the previously announced demise of the Navy's Sea Harrier force will see part of the RAF's existing Harrier fleet committed to carrier operations, reducing the number available for other roles.
The Eurofighter Typhoon is said to be the future of the RAF, but with 3 less Jaguar squadrons and one less Tornado F.3 squadron to requip, the number of Typhoons required will fall substantially, perhaps to as low as 100-120 aircraft.
