It is primarily used as a relief landing ground for RAF Valley.
Today Mona is used for circuit practice by BAE Hawks from RAF Valley.

RAF Valley is open as a diversion facility for both military and civilian aircraft on Monday to Friday from 0800 until 1800 hrs.
The ATC task at RAF Valley is not made any easier by the surrounding airspace and terrain, and whilst there are few other airfields in close proximity, there are many restrictions including controlled airspace, Aberporth and Llanbedr danger areas, and the mountains of Snowdonia (restricting radar cover to the south-east).
RAF Valley is one of the busiest flying stations in the Royal Air Force handling, on average, 65,000 movements per year.

RAF Valley on Anglesey could become a major centre for search and rescue operations under plans being considered by the Ministry of Defence.
RAF Valley is already the home of a search and rescue helicopter, but the RAF is looking at moving its main search and rescue headquarters, and the unit where search and rescue pilots are trained to Wales.
In December 2004, plans for an academy for aircraft engineers on Anglesey, at the training college next to RAF Mona, were welcomed by island leaders.
