In April 1942, it was at RAF Skitten and during a defence exercise, an intruder in civilian clothes was challenged by a squadron gunner, the intruder produced a pistol and counter challenged the airman to surrender, the airman, having been given live ammunition instead shot and wounded the intruder.
It moved to the RAF Regiment Depot in 1942, converted to the Light Anti Aircraft role in May 1943 and during the anti-Diver operations of 1944 was based at Foulness.
In February 1942, AC2 Scott became the first RAF Regiment gunner to be involved in the rescue of aircrew from a crashed aircraft, when he rescued the crew of an aircraft that had crashed near Grantham, for which he was awarded a Mention in Despatches.

The main RAF base in Oman was Salalah, a heavily defended, packed sand air strip from which Skymasters and Skyvans operated under the guardianship of RAF Regiment gunners in defensive positions called hedgehogs.

 RSG: Sites: RAF Catterick - Sector Operations Centre
Shortly after the new SOC was commissioned RAF Catterick was downgraded as it was no longer considered an important fighter base and during March 44 the last fighter unit to use the airfield departed and Catterick was relegated to a second line airfield.
At end of war in 1945 the station became an air crew allocation centre and in 1946 the Band of the RAF Regiment and the RAF Regiment depot moved from Belton Park, Grantham to Catterick and from that time the station functioned as a training establishment where all ranks gained their professional skills.
The RAF Regiment Depot moved to RAF Honington in May 1994 and the RAF Ensign lowered on 1st July 1994.
