RAF Halton St George' s Church was the scene of a Service of Dedication to a new window in memory of Sir Frank Whittle, an apprentice in the 8th entry, who went on to pioneer the jet engine.
George Brodie, an ex RAF chef and now a 'Beefeater', said that it was a privilege to be invited to be guinea-pigs for those at the very start of their catering career. In return the trainees have been invited to a ceremony of the keys and the promise that they will not be beheaded for petty reasons!
The flight was part of an RAF equal opportunities recruitment initiative which aims to highlight to the ethnic minority community the diverse range of career opportunities in the light-blue uniform.

RAF Cardington seemed like a zoo, giving the impression of organized chaos but in fact it was far from it.
My memories of RAF Bridgnorth are not that extensive but of the usual things like parades, constant 'bull' to try and stay one step in front of the D.I. Someone else mentioned a Cpl Pope, he was our D.I. so I presume it must be the same one.
RAF Cosford was nearby and in those days it use to be the training camp for Boy Entrants.

The modification was enhanced by the increase in the number of 'real' instruments and controls, allying the flight deck to the RAF version, by utilising parts from the RAF Britannia that ran off the end of the runway at RAF Khormaksar, Aden in 1967 (XL638).
It was during this period that the fuselage section gained a RAF style 'lightning flash', carried on all RAF Britannias.
In 2003, the RAF style lightning flash colour scheme was replaced with an authentic early 1950s BOAC livery, identical to the one it carried during its brief flying career.

This replica was built for the 1962 Olympia Royal Tournament, and was 'flown' around the arena from ropes during a battle scene with a replica Fokker Triplane.
After the event, it became part of the station museum at RAF Colerne in Wiltshire.
In the 1980's, it was used as a travelling exhibit by the Historic Aircraft Museum, and was based at RAF Saint Athan, and from 1986 at RAF Saint Mawgan.

A spokeswoman explained: “During the two-hour session the cadets were given a quiz sheet and encouraged to speak to as many personnel from the different branches for the service as possible.
“Whether interested in the RAF or not, the opportunity to gather so many air cadets and school pupils to see such a range of activities under one roof was a terrific opportunity.

Displays of 11 aircraft, relics and memorabilia, housed in old RAF buildings, recreate the history of the Battle of Britain in 1940.
Other exhibits and displays depict the work of the British Special Operations Executive from their RAF base at Tempsford; the Cold War roles of the airfield at Harrington with the Thor rockets and the Royal Observer Corps.
