 Guardian | MoD to close four RAF bases
RAF Boulmer in Northumberland, RAF Neatishead in Norfolk, RAF Sealand in Deeside, Flintshire and RAF Stafford will be closed in a move affecting 2,000 jobs.
It is now part of the RAF's string of air defence and surveillance bases, of which Neatishead was one of the first.
Sealand and Stafford, which have radar and refuelling facilities, are part of the RAF's strike command air combat support system.

RAF Buchan will retain 14 of its homes for the staff who remain at the site to man a Remote Radar Head.

In 1988 the aircraft moved to RAF Sealand and in 1990 was restored and repainted as WT720 (the real WT720 was retired in 1964 and scrapped).
RAF Sealand is off the A550 North of Queensferry (driving South), but has been moved further behind the guardroom so pictures may be more problematic than before.
However she was actually in the middle of being stripped to be repainted in RAF colours as XF383, and as you can see from the current picture, the repaint is very nearly finished (if you walk round the other side you'll see some markings have yet to be completed).

I would expect the impact on the local community of the closure of RAF Sealand to be negligible as Flintshire has an expanding economy and a low unemployment rate.

Many civil aircraft were impounded here at the start of the war and many (some say those not usable by the forces) were lost in a tragic hangar fire in December 1940.
Grass strip used as a satellite for RAF Sealand.

My first posting was to RAF Sealand in Cheshire; this is a maintenance unit carrying out complex operations on various electronic systems.
RAF Kinloss on the Moray Firth, great diving locally and within easy reach of the West coast - easily the best diving in the world.
I worked hard though to integrate the civilized RAF working ethos into the ships routines and I am not one to hold a grudge but it was 1/280th of my life that was well and truly wasted.

 On Squadron activities
Ten cadets of the 'Field Squad' attend the Driffield Camp as part of the D of E and Adult Basic Expedition leaders Award training (BELA) Led by CI Alan Beattie the weekend was a success on the 29/30 dispute the high winds and showers.
This involves 3 minibuses from RAF and Army sources and a total of 25 personnel at nil cost to the Squadron.
July summer camp is held at RAF Sealand + Air Cadet 2000 (AC2K) RAF CRANWELL seven cadets to Sealand and five to AC2K.
