 History
The squadron reformed at RCAF Station Summerside on 8 July 1968 as 413 Rescue Squadron, absorbing elements of 103 Rescue Unit.
The squadron was reformed on April 30, 1951, at RCAF Station Greenwood as 404 Maritime Reconnaissance Squadron.
Reformed on 1 August 1951 as an All-Weather Fighter Squadron at RCAF Station Bagotville, 413 was renamed in November as a Fighter Squadron and, on 7 march 1953, they moved to 3 Wing Zweibrucken, Germany, where they stayed until they were disbanded on 7 April 1957.

RCAF Station MacDonald closed on 31 May 1959 and storage depot for Air Maintenance Command was established at the former station.
With the end of the war, activity at the station was greatly reduced and most of the RCAF Squadrons re-located elsewhere.
All that remains of RCAF Detachment Hartney is the abandoned and crumbling airfield and a quonset hut.

 CFB Summerside - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The February 1, 1968 unification of the three service branches into the Canadian Armed Forces saw RCAF Station Summerside change its name to Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Summerside.
The airfield was home to training squadrons operating under the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan with nearby aerodromes at RCAF Station Mount Pleasant and RCAF Station Charlottetown.
The main runway at Summerside is more capable for large aircraft than the Charlottetown Airport, although no scheduled air service includes the Summerside field.

 Summerside Hospitality During WWII
The training facility that was built on farmland in North St. Eleanors became known as RCAF Station Summerside.
The Mark V aircraft on the Station reached a high of 118 at the end of May as other stations began to disperse their aircraft prior to closing.
The official beginning of the No. 1 R & NS in Summerside was on February 4, 1945.

At the request of the RCMP a number of Station personnel, together with emergency equipment, were dispatched to the Mire area to fight bush fires which were threatening the popular resort settlement in that area.
This evening, the Station branch of the NDEA held a lobster boil at Kenwood Pavilion on the Mira River, in honour of S/L and Mrs.
This is the first venture of this nature in Station history and although attendance was not quite up to expectations, those present voted the evening to be a most enjoyable one and it is expected that future dances will be even more successful.

 Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Charlottetown airfield in the nearby rural community of Sherwood was upgraded as part of the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan and operated for the duration of World War II as RCAF Station Charlottetown, in conjunction with RCAF Station Mount Pleasant and RCAF Station Summerside.
Aside from being the seat of colonial government, the community came to be noted during the early 19th century for shipbuilding and its lumber industry as well as being a fishing port.
As with most communities in North America, the automobile shaped Charlottetown's development in the latter half of the 20th century, when outlying farms in rural areas of Brighton, Spring Park, and Parkdale saw increased housing developments.

On February 1, 1968 RCAF Station Summerside was renamed Canadian Forces Base Summerside.
The base was named R.C.A.F. Station Summerside and in 1941 became a permanent installation and home to the Air Navigational School, a training facility for NATO navigators.
At that time, 413 Search and Rescue Squadron was relocated to Canadian Forces Base Summerside and became the home of SAR activities for the East Coast of Canada.

161 squadron formed as a Bomber Reconnaissance (BR) unit at RCAF Station Dartmouth NS on 28 April 1943.
In May 1944 the squadron moved to Gaspe ¢ Quebec from where it also maintained detachments at Summerside PEI, Yarmouth NS and Sept-Isles Quebec.
In November 1944 the squadron again moved to Yarmouth where it was disbanded on 31 May 1945.

 THE HISTORY OF THE VP INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION
On 7 February 1967, RCAF Station Summerside was given permission to form Number One Branch P-2000 Club with responsibility for the East Coast Maritime area.
In December 1966 the Base Commander of RCAF Station Summerside, PEI indicated that there were some 12 prospective members on the 2 (M)OTU with a willingness to form a club.
In a memorandum to his Squadron, the Commanding Officer, Wing Commander Herb Smale, announced that "effective 1 May 1966 the 407 Squadron Neptune Club would be brought into being", at RCAF Station Comox, British Columbia, Canada.

 Shearwater Aviation Museum
Therefore, on 1 December 1948 the RCAF turned the air station over the RCN, which according to naval custom renamed the air station HMCS Shearwater ; also known as Royal Canadian Naval Air Station Shearwater.
As the fourth largest air force in the world during the Second World War the RCAF was in the process of downsizing to its peacetime compliment in the post-war era.
Tracker operations ceased at Shearwater in the summer of 1981 when MR 880 was transferred to Summerside PEI.

A:         Gazetted awards to all RCAF personnel for services 1947 to 1970, whether for flying or non-flying duties; it does not enter the period of distinctive Canadian awards instituted 1967-1972.
On the night of 27 April, 1962, a fire occurred in a third floor apartment of the RCAF married quarters located at St. Avold, eleven miles from 2 Fighter Wing, Grostenquin, France, in which a boy of twelve and three infants, aged two years and below, were sleeping.
  Educated in Scotland; served two tours with RAF before joining RCAF in Toronto, 1956; posted to No.433 Squadron, December 1957.

It was based at RCAF Station Summerside, where it would remain for twenty years moving to Greenwood in June, 1981.
In 1952, the RCAF issued a requirement for an aircraft to replace the aging bombers and, realizing that the Lancaster’s could not be expected to soldier on until the arrival of their replacements, ordered Lockheed P2V-7 Neptune’s “off the line” to act as a modern stand-in until the arrival of the new aircraft.

In 1945, he was named commander of the air element of Operation Muskox in the Canadian Arctic, and served as commanding officer of the RCAF station at Fort St. John, B.C. In 1952, he planned and completed the first accurate mapping of the Canadian Arctic.

 14 Wing - Squadrons & Units - Maritime Proving and Evaluation Unit - History
The Maritime Proving and Evaluation Unit (MPandEU) was commissioned on 1 April 1959, at RCAF Station Greenwood, N.S., and began operations at RCAF Station Summerside, P.E.I., in July of that year.
After almost twenty years at Summerside, MPandEU returned to 14 Wing Greenwood in August 1978, prior to the introduction of the CP-140 Aurora into the Canadian Forces
In the late '50s, with the introduction of the Argus into operational service, it became apparent that there was a need for a unit dedicated to evaluating the many new avionics systems contained in that Aircraft.
