  Naval Technology - RFA Fort Victoria Class - Fleet Replenishment Ships
RFA Fort Victoria was part of the UK Royal Navy Task Group in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in March and April 2004.
In July 2006, RFA Fort Victoria supported operations in the evacuation of UK nationals from Beirut during the conflict involving Israel and Lebanon, as part of the Royal Navy Operation Highbrow.
RFA Fort Victoria is also fitted with a two-spot flight deck, a hangar and maintenance facilities for five Sea King or Merlin helicopters.

Fort George, and her sister ship RFA Fort Victoria, combine the functions of ocean-going fast fleet support tanker and stores support ship - a new concept in logistics support policy at the time, as the prevailing fashion had been fro single-role support ships and tankers.
RFA Fort George was laid down at Swan Hunter on Tyneside in March 1989, and was launched by Lady Annie Slater, wife of the then Commander-in-Chief Fleet Admiral Sir Jock Slater, just under two years, just under two years later.
Fort George, returning to the UK from her role in Exercise Purple Star, off the American east coast, altered course and increased speed to reach the Canadian yacht.

RFA Fort George was ordered from Swan Hunter on the 18th of December 1987.
In March of 2000 RFA Fort George supported the international relief effort for the flood victims of Mozambique, RFA Fort George was later awarded the Wilkinson Sword of Peace for her efforts.
Once the hose has been connected, RFA Fort George is able to pump fuel across to the receiving ship as well as water, aviation fuel, and lubrication oil.

FORT Victoria is a handy ship to have around – she and her sister Fort George are often described as floating warehouses, although even that does not quite cover the waterfront.
Fort Victoria has an impressive flight deck which is served by three hangars, each of which can handle an aircraft the sized of a Sea King or Merlin, and she has repair facilities on board for the latter.
Fort Victoria was in refit between April and October last year, and was due to complete her Operational Sea Training under Flag Officer Sea Training (FOST) as Navy News went to press.

The RFA really came into its own in World War II when the British fleet was often far from available bases, either due to the enemy capturing available bases, or, in the Pacific, the sheer distances involved.
After 1945, the RFA assumed centre stage in supporting the operations of the Royal Navy in the many conflicts that the Navy was involved in.

RFA personnel are trained in line with their counterparts in the Merchant Navy but with additional naval training to equip them to operate in partnership with the Royal Navy in an operational environment.
The RFA provided frontline support during both Gulf Wars notably RFA Argus serving as a Casualty Receiving Ship in 1991 and Sir Galahad delivering much needed humanitarian aid to the liberated port of Umm Qasr in 2003, continuing the role of her namesake from the Falklands Campaign.
RFA Diligence is a Forward Repair Ship originally requisitioned for the Falklands Campaign but proved so useful she was transferred permanently to the RFA.

 News: Delivery of Last Merlin for UK MoD
For more than a year, Merlin has dominated the fighting capability of the Type 23 frigate, HMS Lancaster and 814 Squadron from RNAS Culdrose is currently flying from RFA Fort Victoria as an integral part of the Ark Royal Task Group.
The air training ship, RFA Argus, is a key player in Royal Navy training.
RFA Argus was part of a tri-service exercise and Merlin, in the hands of trainee aircrew employing only a part of its true multi-role capability, dominated the situation underwater by denying hostile submarines the chance of attack on friendly surface ships.
