Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) Fort Victoria (A387) was built by Harland and Wolff and her sister ship RFA Fort George (A388) was built by Swan Hunter Shipbuilders.
Fort Victoria is 204m long, has a beam of 30m and displaces 31,565t.
RFA Fort Victoria is also fitted with a two-spot flight deck, a hangar and maintenance facilities for five Sea King-sized helicopters.

Fort Victoria was ordered from Harland and Wolff in 1986, and was launched in 1990.
However, various problems with the construction of the vessel meant it was not delivered until 1993, three years after originally planned.

The construction of Fort Victoria caused considerable controversy, as her cost increased from envisaged £127 million to £190 million.
In 1998 Fort Victoria was refitted with a Phalanx weapons system on her bridge roof at Rosyth dockyard making her perhaps the most potently armed Auxiliary in service.
Fort George was diverted to Mozambique as part of the United Kingdom's £4.2 million aid package after the West African state was devistated by floods in March 2000.

This day has rather painful memories as whilst photographing her departure I was bitten by a critter lurking in the long grass which left me with a painful and very swollen leg for a couple of weeks!
PONT-AVEN quickly made her way around Drake’s Island to gain the Western Channel RFA BLACK ROVER and RFA BRAMBLELEAF were at the anchorage.
At around 08:35 an RFA Fort Class vessel was spotted, it appeared to be A387 FORT VICTORIA – however, given the poor visibility and the fact that the ship was a good distance off I could not be 100% certain that I had made the correct identification.

Most visitors and residents of Eyemouth couldn't have failed to have noticed our guest recently moored off of Eyemouth Bay.
The ship concerned was the RFA Fort Victoria, A387, whose skipper hails from Eyemouth.

RFA Fort Victoria is a handy ship to have around, as the cadets and staff from TS Dianthus found out this weekend on a visit to her on Plymouth Sound.
The Cadets were treated to a busy two days taking in every part of the ship from the engine room to the bridge, finishing with NBCD training with members of the ship's company on the Saturday.
