Sir Tristram was rebuilt to a slightly modified design while Sir Galahad was deemed beyond repair, and was replaced with a new vessel of the same name.
Sir Bedivere entered dockyard hands in late 1994 to begin a Service Life Extension Programme (SLEP), designed to extend her lifespan by a further fifteen years.
This capability was rarely used and additionally RFA Sir Geraint came close to sinking in 1998 when she started to take in water through her bow doors.

Unfortunately RFA Sir Lancelot was unintentionally run aground during the action and could not be re-floated.
LSL (troop landing ship) RFA Sir Galahad was struck by a IAI Navy Dagger 1000-pound bomb that penetrated the hull and stopped in the battery room without exploding.

Landing Ship Logistic (LSL) RFA Sir Bedivere arrived in the picturesque Devon town in the wee small hours of the night, mooring in the centre of the River Dart, where she joined the recently-commissioned offshore patrol vessel HMS Tyne.
Members of Sir Bedivere’s ship’s company were involved in the festivities right from the start, with Commanding Officer Capt Shaun Jones RFA representing the Royal Fleet Auxiliary at the opening ceremony.
With the ship dressing overall, she formed a fitting backdrop to the events and competitions held both on and off the water – she was moored adjacent to the finish line for many of the water-borne races.

The existing RFA Landing ships were designed to run up on a beach to discharge their cargo of men and vehicles.
These vessels will replace four of the current LSLs — RFAs Sir Geraint, Sir Percivale, Sir Tristram, which are over 30 years old, and RFA Sir Galahad - by 2005, and represent a marked increase in capability, especially in a near-doubling in the carrying capacity of each ship and through increased speed of offload.
The future of RFA Sir Bedivere, which underwent a ship life extension program between 1995 and 1998, will be reviewed.

Accra, Sept. 1, GNA - Two British naval ships, RFA Sir Bedivere and RFA Fort Rosalie, docked on Wednesday at the Tema Harbour with supporting logistics and supplies for a bilateral training exercise.
The six-week exercise code-named "Ex-Western Rhumba 2004" is a joint military exercise aimed at practicing tactics, techniques and procedures required to operate in the jungle.
It said the engineers supporting the exercise would undertake civil action programmes involving the construction of classrooms and the repair of infrastructure and training facilities within the exercise area.

The existing and already modernised RFA Sir Bedivere will however probably be retained to at least 2012 in order to achieve the required 5 ship force level.
An order for the design and construction of two ALSL ships (to directly replace RFA Sir Geraint and Sir Percivale) valued at £140 million was placed on 18 December 2000 with Swan Hunter (Tyneside), creating 1,000 new jobs at their Tyneside shipyard, and sustaining 200 jobs off-site.
The first (of 32) complete blocks for RFA Largs Bay were placed on the berth in May 2002, she will be launched in early 2003 and acceptance was scheduled for early 2004, later changed to mid/late 2005.

A number of cadets joined the RFA Sir Bedivere at Marchwood and were able to witness the Spithead Review from close range, other cadets were involved with the Field Gun display, Massed Band and also formed the Royal Guard of Honour for Princess Anne at the Trafalgar 200 celebrations.
Sir Bedivere: The units affiliated ship called in at Dover early in March and the cadets and staff were treated to a guided tour of the ship.
Sir Bedivere is a Landing Ship Logistics Support Vessel and is manned by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary.

Royal Marines from 539 Assault Squadron, which is based in Plymouth, arrived home on landing ship RFA Sir Bedivere, which berthed at Millbay Docks.
The Sir Bedivere left the UK last September to carry out exercises in the Gulf as a support ship.
And around 50 crew on RFA Sir Percivale have arrived home after more than 100 days at sea.

RFA Argus, with three Sea King helicopters embarked, will now join the Task Group under Commodore Niall Kilgour, Commander Amphibious Task Group, in HMS Ocean.
The other Task Group ships are tanker RFA Brambleleaf, supply ship RFA Fort Austin and landing ship RFA Sir Bedivere.

My first shore appointment came in June 1985 when I was appointed to Empress State Building in London as Engineer Superintendent to represent the RFA on the AOR Project during the tender award phase.
After contract award I was appointed to stand by the building of RFA Sir Galahad as Superintendent at the Swan Hunter shipyard and subsequently sailed in her as the first Chief Engineer Officer in 1988.
After a short relieving appointment in RFA Fort Victoria I was sent to RFA Fort George and am now in RFA Gold Rover in the Caribbean.

Seventeen years earlier, on RFA SIR BEDIVERE, I had taken some slides during the re-supply of that station.
At that time the ship was anchored off the island but visibility was poor and I heard and smelt the colony though I couldn’t see it.

RFA SIR GALAHAD departed from West Alexandra after undergoing work by North Western Ship repairers during the week.
RFA SIR BEDIVERE was reported out in the river on Sunday April 21, returning to Alfred Lock.

On completion of his tour as DWEO, he joined Pheonix NBCD School in 1997 at HMS Excellent where he was Officer-in-Charge of the NBC Practical Training Unit, teaching NBC Defence.
In January 2001 he was appointed to Flag Officer Sea Training as a WE Seariding Officer, where he was lead Searider in RFAs and a variety of platforms including Portuguese, Greek, German, French and Swedish ships.
Appointed to the First Mine Countermeasures Squadron as Squadron Engineer Officer (SEO) in 2002, he deployed to the Arabian Gulf embarked in RFA Sir Bedivere.

Sea Crusader provided vital sea lift to Middle East for the British forces in one of her last roles, Sea Crusader left RFA service in July 2003 after a career in RAF service which took her around the world to various conflicts.
The ship had joined the RFA in October 1996.
