Trials began in March of 1942 using manufactured hose utilising the Germans design, in fact with the much improved design it was possible to float the fuelling hose down to the ship astern without the encumbrance of stirrups, RFA Eaglesdale was the ship chosen to participate in the experiment.
RFA Broomdale was the first ship to be fitted with the new experimental gantry type kingposts equipped with two of the net defence derricks formally used for torpedo protection.
Transferred to RFA manning in 1954 becoming an Armament Store Issue Ship and served as such until scrapped at Bilbao in 1970.

 50th Anniversary of the United Nations
RFA Brambleleaf was one of a number of British Naval Vessels in the area during the early seventies, monitoring and acting as observers during the French Nuclear Tests which at that time, were conducted atmospherically.
During the testing periods, technicians from the RAF lived on Pitcairn, monitoring levels of radio activity, to ensure, the safety of Pitcairn's inhabitants.
The RFA Brambleleaf which visited in 1995 was the third vessel to have this name.

 Welcome to USNS SIRIUS T-AFS 8
USNS SIRIUS (T-AFS 8) Was the first of 3 british Royal Fleet Auxillary replishment ships to join the US Navy in support of building tensions in the Middle East in the early 1980s.
Formerly the RFA Lyness, was renamed USNS SIRIUS on 18 Jan 81.
The other ships that are of the LYNESS class are: USNS SIRIUS (T-AFS 8) formerly RFA LYNESS USNS SPICA (T-AFS 9) formerly RFA TARBATNESS USNS SATURN (T-AFS 10) formerly RFA STROMNESS As of the summer of 2001, The Sirius, Spica and Saturn operatate in the Atlantic/Med Operation Areas.

The group includes the submarine Churchill, helicopter cruiser Tiger, fast fleet oiler Tidepool, stores ship Tarbatness, small fleet tanker Green Rover and frigates Antelope, Jupiter, Euryalus, Ariadne, Danae and Aurora.

Tarbatness underwent a conversion into an Assault Landing Ship which enabled her to accommodate 1,300 Royal Marines, 6 landing craft and 3 helicopters.
All three ships were purchased by the United States Military Sealift Command (USMSC) in 1982, as the United States Navy (USN) urgently required combat stores ships to support carrier battlegroups in the Indian Ocean area during the Iranian hostage crisis.
