The passage - interrupted, pleasantly, by a mail-drop from a Shackleton aircraft on the 7th of August - saw Bishop Rock Light raised at 0300 on the morning of the 10th and the pin in the shackle to 'C' Buoy in Plymouth Sound at 1308 that day.
The next day she exchanged identities with six vessels, including the RFA FORT BEAUHARNOIS bound Gibraltar and Chatham, during the forenoon and repeated the exercise with a further seventeen vessels during the First watch.
For exercise the RFA Tanker WAVE AUSTRAL was hit by a torpedo as the ships fought their 'battles' before returning alongside in TOULON late on Wednesday.

 Tide Class Fast Fleet Tankers
The class was built in two distinct groups: Tidereach, Tideflow, Tide Surge and Tide Austral were constructed between 1953 and 1956.
Displacing 26,000 tons, the 'early Tides' had a complement of around 90 and were powered by three Babcock and Wilcox boilers, producing a speed of 17 knots.
The hull was strenghtened to enable them to operate in frozen waters but more significantly they were the first RFA tankers built with a flight deck, a hanger and workshops and were capable of supporting three Wessex helicopters.

RFA RESURGANT was there waiting to store us, over seven tons came aboard in an hour, so its bacon for breakfast again.
In fact we tied up alongside her, and while we refuelled, 70 of the ship's company went across to make use of her swimming pool, which was thoroughly enjoyed.
Finally success was achieved and the hose connected to us, but it was short lived as in the heavy seas we parted the hose and poured more oil on troubled waters.

During the day the Admiral did Messdeck Rounds and the Platoon Sections continued their training on the Quarterdeck.
RFA TIDEREACH came into sight as it got light on Friday morning and BERMUDA oiled from her for just over an hour during the forenoon.
As a formal salute as well as a means of gaining attention BERMUDA fired an 11-gun salute as she made her way through Gibraltar's North Entrance to secure once more on 46 Berth a little after 0900 on Saturday.

RFA Kinbrace, served in suez with the recovery teams removing wrecks from the main shipping assembly area..
OLNA was the fastest fleet oiler in the Med task force and R/V'd with the fleet 60 miles N.of Suez on the night of the attack.ie possible the first ship in area!

 Ships Nostalgia - rfa black ranger
On Nov 18 1960 was damaged around her fore-ends when, during exercises in the channel, she surfaced under the RFA Black Ranger - reportedly signalling to the tanker when safely on the surface "Thules rush in where Rangers fear to tread!".
Hello,If you type in RFA Black Ranger into Google it brings up a few pics of this ship,some when RFA's were in fl and one in Naval Grey.

The modest merchant navy veteran was trapped on the RFA Tidereach in the middle of the Suez Canal in 1956 for three months.
Supplies were running low after the Egyptians sealed off the key shipping route by blowing up British ships at both ends.
The Tidereach made it through the Suez Canal to pick up 29,000 tonnes of aviation fuel, and was heading back to the Mediterranean to take the fuel to the aircraft carriers Ark Royal and Albion.

 HMAS VOYAGER (II) - HMA Ship Histories (Sea Power Centre - Australia)
The Task Group sailed from Yokohama on 30th May 1962, and once clear of Tokyo Bay, the ships made rendezvous with the RFA FORT CHARLOTTE to replenish with provisions.
When VOYAGER took up her position alongside the tanker for underway replenishment, TIDEREACH sent over a large box.
VOYAGER's report says that inside the surprise package was "a large delicious fruit cake".
