RFA personnel, together with their Royal Navy counterparts, are in no doubt as to the role performed by the service.
One of the principal problems in abeam refuelling was the suction effect caused by the interaction of the bow waves of the two vessels.

In the early hours of the 24th hands were called for a RAS with RFA WAVE KNIGHT and a couple of hours were passed with the ships 'tied together' on a Westerly heading at 11 knots.
At 0307 on Sunday morning RFA WAVE RULER was sighted and hands were called for a RAS.
It was still the same when BERMUDA weighed at 0600 but, to the relief of everyone it had dropped away to 10 knots as she returned to anchor for a couple of hours at 1330.

A week later, the same cadets except N/E Lockhart trained at HMS Caledonia for a week before parading in the Royal Guard in Ballataar for HRH The Prince of Wales.
On the weekend that followed A/C Moffat, L/C Paget and L/C Hall travelled to London for the trafalgar day parade and also got to whatch 'The Spirit of Nelson' show and the lighting of Nelsons' Colomn later in the evening.
Some of the cadets were rewarded a four-day journey onboard Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship, RFA Wave Ruler for producing ceremonial duties during the Edinburgh Military Tattoo.

After a flight of 600 miles, including a winter crossing of the Alaska Peninsula and 400 miles of open water, Guth and her crew rescued four of the six-man crew before waves crashed over the vessel and swept the two remaining crewmen into the frigid water.
The station was closed on 1 July 1921 due to a lack of funding.
Approximately 360 civilians were evacuated from villages and isolated areas in Kodiak Island and Prince William Sound.

The unit was instrumental in clearing the way for the British Royal Fleet Auxiliary, Landing Ship Logistic RFA Sir Galahad (L 3005), which delivered the first wave of humanitarian aid in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Sir Galahad, with a capability of carrying approximately 400 troops, with a beaching capacity of 3,440 tons, is the first ship to deliver coalition humanitarian supplies in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

She had been successfully taken under tow by the HM Coastguard tug Anglian Prince at approximately 2030 BST on 7 October, following extensive preparation in very difficult conditions by the submarine's crew, salvage experts and Royal Navy personnel.
The frigate HMS Montrose provided command and control for the incident, supported by her sister-ship Marlborough and the Royal Fleet Auxiliaries Wave Knight and Argus.

 HMS Bermuda - 1962
RFA TIDEREACH came into sight as it got light on Friday morning and BERMUDA oiled from her for just over an hour during the forenoon.
As a formal salute as well as a means of gaining attention BERMUDA fired an 11-gun salute as she made her way through Gibraltar's North Entrance to secure once more on 46 Berth a little after 0900 on Saturday.
At 0845 on Wednesday 30th the ships eased their way out and after refuelling from WAVE PRINCE, BERMUDA hoisted her paying-off pennant and the destroyers 'Cheered Ship' before heading for Helsinki leaving BERMUDA to set course alone for Portsmouth.

A tow line was finally passed from the Anglian Prince, a tug chartered by the Coastguard, at around 8.30pm yesterday.
Also on the scene was the US Navy submarine support ship Carolyn Chouest and British aviation training ship RFA Argus.
Chicoutimi is the last of four former Upholder-class boats sold to the Canadian Navy by the British Government in 1998 and overhauled to Canadian specifications by BAE Systems at Barrow-in-Furness – the same yard in which submarines were built between 1986 and 1991.
