	RFD Linac Structure
		The RFD drift tubes comprise two separate electrodes operating at different electrical potentials, as determined by the rf fields in the cavity, each supporting two fingers pointing inwards towards the opposite end of the drift tube, forming a four-finger geometry that produces an rf quadrupole field distribution along the axis of the drift tube.
		The beam bunches arrive at the centers of the gaps at the times when the electric fields are optimum for acceleration, and the beam bunches arrive at the centers of the drift tubes one half cycle later when the electric fields have reversed their directions and are suitable for focusing the beam.
		A comparison of the rf efficiencies for the RFD and RFQ linac structures, expressed in terms of shunt impedance in megohms/meter, is shown in Figure 4.

	IRIS -- Reference Dose (RfD): Description and Use in Health Risk Assessments
		The RfD is a benchmark dose operationally derived from the NOAEL by consistent application of generally order-of-magnitude uncertainty factors (UFs) that reflect various types of data sets used to estimate RfDs.
		In general, the RfD is an estimate (with uncertainty spanning perhaps an order of magnitude) of a daily exposure to the human population (including sensitive subgroups) that is likely to be without an appreciable risk of deleterious effects during a lifetime.
		High confidence indicates the judgment that the RfD is unlikely to change in the future because there is consistency among the toxic responses observed in different sexes, species, study designs, or in dose-response relationships, or that the reasons for existing differences are well understood.

	Request for Deviation (RFD)
		An RFD is also submitted when prior to the beginning of the final assembly of the first affected serial-numbered unit of a CI, the contractor finds it necessary to deliver one or more parts in a configuration other than that described by the item's baselined documentation.
		RFD effectivity is the means used by the originator to specifically designate each separate unit (or lot of units) of the CIs that are known to be, or that will be, impacted by a proposed RFD.
		Therefore, if the RFD is approved, it is imperative that the government contracting officer negotiate an equitable consideration from the contractor based on either (or both) the quantity of CIs affected by the RFD or the extent the affected CIs do not meet the government's contractual requirements.

		Human exposure to perchlorate is commonplace because it is a contaminant of drinking water, certain foods, and breast milk.
		This assessment has been superceded by a recent National Academy of Science (NAS) review that derived a perchlorate RfD that is 20-fold greater (less stringent) than that derived by the U.S. EPA in 2002.
