RISC OS was a rapid development of Arthur 1.2 after the failure of the ARX project.
RISC OS 3.00 was released with the A5000 in 1991; it was almost four times the size of RISC OS 2 and ran from a 2MB ROM.
RISC OS 3.70 followed in 1996, the primary changes in the OS for this version was supporting the StrongARM processor that was made available as an upgrade for the Risc PC.

I am the current maintainer of the RISC OS port of Vim and this page serves as a means to distribute the latest stable version of Vim for RISC OS, as well as providing links to some useful Vim resources.
Much of the real work of the RISC OS port was done by Thomas Leonard and others up to version 5.4a and I've been building current versions since early in 2001 (5.7).
This version is untested on RISC OS earlier than 4 but should be fine (although I wouldn't recommend using it on a machine with little memory).

Here are several applications I have written for RISC OS, the operating system used by Acorn's 32 bit ARM-based computers.
For example, a file with the extension '.gif' would have it's RISC OS file type appropriately set to &695 and the '.gif' characters removed from the end of the file name.
Originally written to allow RISC OS users to enter a competition to commemorate the 50th anniversary of this historic event, the emulator simply emulates the running of programs and not the interface to the actual computer.

RISC OS is efficient, easy and pretty logical for me (and many others), and it's developing more quickly now than ever before (no thanks to the now defunct Acorn Ltd.).
My version (RISC OS 4.02, which is not the latest version) as installed on my StrongARM equipped RiscPC really shows up Windows as a slow, quirky and unstable piece of software.
RISC OS is thus an incredible 'secret' to most folk.
