 HMHS Britannic
Finally, in early 1914, Britannic was launched, on the 26th February, and the White Star Line announced that she would begin her regular run to New York from Southampton via Cherbourg and Queenstown in the spring of 1915.
Still incomplete, and over twenty-one months since she was launched, Britannic's fate was sealed; she was requisitioned to be a hospital ship by the Admiralty, and her interiors were hurriedly altered to accommodate the large quantity of beds, medical equipment and medical staff that would soon be filling her empty rooms.
The fact that Britannic was only carrying about a third of her usual quota of passengers kept the death rate very low indeed, and apart from thirty fatalities caused when the two lifeboats were crushed by the propellers, everybody else aboard the stricken liner managed to escape in a lifeboat.

As it was, the Britannic never entered service on her intended route, as the outbreak of the First World War saw her being commandeered while completing her fitting out, and her complete refitting as a hospital ship.
Britannic was also modified and photographs of the two latter ships show that they, and not Olympic, were almost identical.
Ironically, both the Britannic and the Olympic were modified after the loss of the Titanic to bring their watertight bulkheads up to the main deck as they should have been designed to do at the outset.

In the case of the Olympic class, Britannic was to be the crowning glory, able with the great Olympic to take on the German-built Imperator and Vaterland and Cunard's Aquitania on the North Atlantic.
Besides robbing Britannic of a long and successful life, the war shrouded in mystery many of the fine points of her outfitting and interior features.
As she was not properly completed before her war service, further changes were introduced, including the installation of Welin davits on the boat deck besides the five gantry davits out of eight that had already been installed.

 Ocean Planet: Titanic FAQ
Britannic started life under the cloud of the Titanic disaster, from the start she was expected to be named "Gigantic" but she was built as Britannic, considered by White Star as a lucky name (the White Star Line had three ships named Britannic over the years - HMHS Britannic was the second).
Below decks, the Britannic was similar to her sisters, but additional safety features (such as a double skin) were "built in" rather than retrofitted.
Considering the shallow water that the Britannic rests in, and the length of time her position has been know it's perhaps ironic that the wreck of the Britannic is safer from would-be salvagers than the Titanic.
