The origins of RNAS Culdrose can be traced back to 1942 when Admiralty surveyors arrived to begin preliminary surveys of 750 acres of land south of the town of Helston.
Culdrose was surveyed in July 1996 which led to a scheme introduced in May 1997 which ran until July 2000.
Following the closure of the scheme and the fact that there was more helicopter activity than previously, a mini-survey was carried out in July 2001 which determined that the noise was below the NIGS criteria, so the contours defined in July 1996 were still valid.
