Radio New Zealand - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
RNZ has two main national networks, National Radio, which carries news, current affairs, and arts, and Concert FM, which is dedicated to classical music and jazz.
RNZ's third network, AM Network, is leased to a private Christian broadcaster while it is not broadcasting parliamentary debates in the House.
RNZ News has a team of experienced correspondents, breaking stories and filing reports for news bulletins and programmes.

2004-0903 - Broadcasting Standards Authority - Decision Complaint by Peter Ellis   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-24)
RNZ stated that Mr Ellis’s claims that he did not know the interviewee and had not been associated with or working at the Christchurch Civic Crèche at the time Nathan was there “[did] not derogate from the facts stated by the interviewee”.
RNZ staff attempted to corroborate with police whether they had a reliable witness who said that Mr Ellis was associated with and hanging around the crèche at the time when Nathan was attending.
RNZ staff also made inquiries with a person (Winston Wealleans) who they understood to be “sympathetic” to Mr Ellis to “corroborate the dates mentioned in the interview as to when Mr Ellis was actually working at the crèche”.

Radio NZ and Ellis - 2004-115
[55] RNZ advised the Authority that Mr Ellis’s arguments that the Nathan interview was a separate matter from the ongoing Peter Ellis controversy, and that the “period of current interest” in relation to the Nathan story was narrow, were “rather artificial”.
RNZ suggest that Mr Ellis could have taken steps to ensure that his point of view was presented.
If RNZ was not looking to later programmes to provide balance then it is difficult to understand why they have repeatedly referred to the proposition that later programmes could provide such a balance.

Public Broadcasters - Radio New Zealand (RNZ) and Television New Zealand (TVNZ) | Radio Spectrum: Expiry of Rights - ...
RNZ is required to deliver broadcast services of a nature determined by the Radio New Zealand Act 1995 and the Charter therein.
RNZ was issued licences for its broadcast services under the Radiocommunications Act 1989, subject to conditions of use specified in s174-178 of the Act, and has since been issued additional licences without charge.
It is recommended that licences granted to RNZ for provision of its public broadcast services be renewable, without charge, as non-transferable licences with appropriate limiting conditions, including requirements equivalent to s174-178 of the Radiocommunications Act where relevant.

Feature: For the public good by Mark Revington | New Zealand Listener
RNZ’s news must be timely, accurate and sought after, its programmes must reflect the society it serves and it should set an agenda for thought-provoking, edgy, intelligent programming.
The good ship RNZ isn’t exactly on the rocks, or even heading for them, but it does have the battered air of a vessel that has weathered too many storms in the past decade and especially the past two years.
Eighty-two percent of those surveyed think that RNZ broadcasts programmes not generally found on other stations and 79% believe RNZ supports New Zealand music, up from 60% in 1999, when the question was first asked.

John Campbell (broadcaster) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In 1989, Radio New Zealand (RNZ) offered him a job as a business reporter.
He had no journalism training, but RNZ ran a cadetship system which provided him with the experience he needed.
He read the three-minute news bulletins on the hour for RNZ, and then moved to TV3 in 1991 as a general reporter in their Wellington newsroom.

The Wireless: Open letter to Radio New Zealand
I actually visited the RNZ technical department that was charged with making the new site, and was told at the time that they had committed to a maximum 32kHz and a second choice of a much lower bitrate for people with rural service copper wire dialup connections.
Without challenging this, RNZ and the people of New Zealand who listen (and, incidentally, who buy a lot of music) are at their mercy.
If RNZ were to start streaming their broadcasts online, then for those who do listen online, they have no marketplace advantage and their precious frequencies are worthless.

He requested that the Authority require RNZ to produce specified material, which he maintains is relevant to the determination of the complaint.
He has submitted that RNZ has provided no evidential basis for its assertion that a genuine assurance of confidentiality was given to the interviewee, and in any event, RNZ is not automatically entitled to rely on the right to protect the identity of its sources.
