Integer factorization - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The easiness of primality testing is a crucial part of the RSA algorithm, as it is necessary to find large prime numbers to start with.
The supposed difficulty of this problem is at the heart of certain algorithms in cryptography such as RSA.
This is the type of algorithm used to factor RSA numbers.

 :: SAFlyer :: flight tests :
Although the RSA 200's wing might be less inclined to lift higher weights a fact borne out by Cessna's slower (by 3mph) stall speed, there is a maximum landing weight unusual for a small aircraft suggesting there is a structural limitation as well as aerodynamic.
It was easy to pose the RSA 200 for Frans's camera and he was able to take a magnificent photo of the aircraft banked beyond the vertical as we broke off to further evaluate handling.
The NIC mandated that the RSA 200 be built by Atlas Aircraft as they had spare capacity at the time as well as the "expertise" to continue such a project.

RSA poses $200,000 crypto challenge The Register
RSA Security is running a factoring challenge that offers would-be code breakers a prize of up to $200,000 for finding the two numbers of the kind used to create ultra-secure 2048-bit encryption key.
The idea of the RSA Factoring Challenge, which has been set before with lower-strength ciphers, is to encourage research into computational number theory and the practical difficulty of factoring large integers.
Previous RSA Factoring Challenges have revealed that the US-government backed Data Encryption Standard (DES) was vulnerable to a brute force attack that yielded the result of a 56-bit key in a little over 22 hours.

Robert A. Baines, Mayor Of The City of Manchester & a. v. New Hampshire Senate President
RSA 14:8 concerns the process by which bills are "enrolled." RSA 20:2-a concerns changes that may be made to a bill after it has passed both houses of the legislature and permits the director of legislative services to review bills before they are printed.
The petitioners argue that Laws 2004, chapter 200 is unconstitutional because, as a "money bill," the constitution requires that it originate in the New Hampshire House of Representatives (House) and because it differs materially from the bill the legislature passed.
Most significantly, Laws 2004, chapter 200 increased the rate from $3.24 on each $1,000 of the value of taxable property to $3.33 on each $1,000 of the value of taxable property.

There is one RSA number of length 100, one of length 110, and so on, up to one of length 500.
It is expected that the RSA challenge numbers will be at least as hard, if not harder, to factor than the partition numbers of the same length.
The RSA challenge numbers are thus tagged RSA-100, RSA-110, RSA-120,..., RSA-500.

Two hundred digit number factored - Wikinews
The number, named RSA-200, is one of a series of challenges issued by security company RSA Security in March 1991 in order to track the real-world difficulty of factoring such numbers, used in the public-key encryption algorithm RSA.
RSA-200 was part of the original RSA Factoring Challenge, which was discontinued and replaced with a different set of numbers in 2001.
One number in the new challenge, named RSA-640, has only 193 digits (compared to the 200 of RSA-200), and carries a prize of US$20,000 for its factorisation.

 SSL Performance and Capacity Planning
While RSA ops per second are certainly an important performance metric, they are only one-third of the total performance picture that should be considered when evaluating accelerators.
RSA operations occur when a new SSL session is established.
While it is not inconceivable for a site to receive tens of millions of hit a day, it is difficult to imagine that such a site would not have a highly fault tolerant configuration.

ComputerUser.com News: RSA Security axes 200 workers
IT security firm RSA Security trimmed 200 workers, or about 17 percent of its worldwide workforce, as part of a change to its organizational structure, the company said.
RSA Security said it would take a charge of $8 million to $10 million in the current quarter, mostly due to workforce reduction and facility costs.
RSA Security's first quarter financial report, released April 11, showed a loss of $13.7 million on revenue of $55.5 million.

 Slashdot RC5-64 Success
It's never hard for RSA to up their bit-length to 4096, say, a year before 2048 RSA is broken, and someone collects their $200,000.
With current technology, as RSA likes to demonstrate, the winners are the cryptographers, not the cryptologists (the code breakers.) Quantum computing may change that, and make the cryptologists the winners.
Until then, RSA can happily give cash prizes for increasing length keys: the numbers are on their side.

Information Security Magazine - Sec Wire Digest
RSA Security is asking the crypto community at large to test the strength of its algorithms--and will pay up to $200,000 to individuals who meet its new "Factoring Challenge." Contestants must be the first to determine the two prime numbers used to generate eight challenge numbers in public-key encryption.
RSA Security also hopes to encourage more research in computational number theory.
The amount of computer time needed to launch an attack is considerable, given contest key sizes range from 576 bits, which pays $10,000 to the first winner, to 2,048 bits to its longest challenge, and biggest payout at $20,000.

 RSA number
The first RSA numbers generated, from RSA-100 to RSA-500, were labeled according to their number of decimal digits; later, however, beginning with RSA-576, binary digits are counted instead.
The RSA numbers, listed by security company RSA Security, are certain large semiprime numbers (i.e., numbers with exactly two prime factors); they form the basis of the RSA Factoring Challenge, in which factorisations for these numbers are sought.
An exception to this is RSA-617, which was created prior to the change in the numbering scheme.

RSA WebID agent can't read Unicode The Register
RSA Security has finally been in touch (after a week) to say that it discovered the vulnerability back in July and that ProCheckUp issued its alert without consulting it.
RSA's WebID agent is supposed to deny access to a corporate intranet until a user is properly authenticated by a SecurID server.
RSA Security has issued a new release of the C libraries used in SecurID which guards against the flaw, according to ProCheckUp.

Network World: Vendors uncrate single sign-on software
The RSA Security SSO server runs on either Windows 2003 or Solaris, while the Imprivata server ships in the form of a Linux-based appliance.
RSA security's Sign-On Manager, expected to ship at the end of this month, also provides single sign-on capability so the user doesn't have to remember multiple passwords, but extends that single sign-on support to include RSA's SecurID dynamic-password tokens and public-key certificates, which are more secure than simple passwords.
Imprivata and RSA Security each announced client/server products this week for bringing single sign-on authentication to corporate networks.

This means that the size of P used in implementations of these cryptoalgorithms must be as large as the size of the modulus N in RSA (above 200 decimal digits).

RSA Cuts 200 Jobs in Major Reorg
RSA Security Inc. on Wednesday announced that it will cut 200 jobs and take a second-quarter charge of at least $8 million as part of a sweeping corporate reorganization.
And in January, the company announced that the Securities and Exchange Commission had begun a formal investigation into the company's change of accounting methods, which RSA announced in its 10-Q statement in the first quarter of 2001.
It's been a rough year for RSA, which has seen its stock price plummet from nearly $40 in late May 2001 to its current level of just above $7.

 Security Wire Digest - Monday, April 29, 2002, Vol. 4 No. 33
RSA Security last week announced a reorganization that will eliminate 200 jobs, or 17 percent of the company's workforce.
The restructuring and job cuts follow a quarterly loss of almost $14 million due to lower than expected earnings on its products, RSA said in an earlier statement.
The Bedford, Mass.-based firm will organize into three product lines: authentication, which includes the SecurID line; developer solutions/encryption, including the BSAFE line; and Web access management, under which ClearTrust products now fall.

While the RSA cryptosytem, used to provide security for web browsers and computer operating systems, currently relies upon 768-bit or 1024-bit keys; our computation [gave] the largest key broken in public, and [was] described at AsiaCrypt'96, a cryptography conference.
An update on the above may be found at the RSA Factoring Challege, for information on my part in breaking RSA-140 and RSA-155 (a 512-bit RSA-key) in 1999; or see the published paper Factorization of a 512-bit RSA Modulus.
The matrix equation was solved on a Cray C90, using 62 hours of CPUtime, breaking a 430-bit RSA key (130 decimal digits) into two 65-digit primes.

 SSL Acceleration
They take about 1 second to do a secret key RSA op, so they might best be classified as "decelerators" rather than accelerators, but they seem like a very cost effective key management solution.
The graphs show performance as number of simulated clients is ramped up from 200 to 800, but they don't use enough clients to overload the servers, so no knee is visible.
Both their boxes do 200 conn/s, but max out at around 2500 connections through one box.
