The RSPB reserve team are organising ‘Bitterns at bedtime’ events every Wednesday throughout May when booming bitterns are at their most vocal.

This marvellous RSPB site was once an outlier of the estuary leading into Morecambe Bay.
The marshy valley was drained by a coal-fired pumping station and a sea wall built, but the expense of the First World War (1914-1918) meant that it was simply too costly to keep the pumps going.
At the seaward end of the reserve is a hide dedicated to the memory of the late Eric Morecambe - a keen birdwatcher who was born nearby in Morecambe.
