 RSPB Titchwell Marsh - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
RSPB Titchwell Marsh is a nature reserve on the coast of North Norfolk, England, five miles east of Hunstanton, in the care of the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
The reserve has breeding birds typical of its habitats, such as Avocet, gulls, and terns on the more open areas, and Bearded Tits, Marsh Harriers and Bitterns in the reedbeds.
It is at migration periods in spring and autumn that Titchwell comes into its own.

In summer, the most populous area is the grazing marsh, where you can follow a trail that runs between the car park at the end of Lady Anne's Drive and the A149, and passes the two hides.
Titchwell Marsh is the RSPB's most popular birdwatching reserve and the ideal place for any ornithological first-timers.
The westerly RSPB reserve at Snettisham is best known for its waders in summer and pink-footed geese in winter, though you can also catch sight of gulls and terns in summer.

It was late evening, and I was having a quick walk in Titchwell RSPB reserve.
Titchwell Marsh RSPB Reserve is on the beautiful North Norfolk coast, and has sandy beach, reedbed, saltmarsh and shallow lagoon habitats.

Breeding occurred at Titchwell Marsh in 2004, the first since 1989.
Titchwell Marsh has the second largest reedbed in north Norfolk and has recently been improved for the benefit of bitterns by lowering the reedbed and introducing fish.
In Suffolk, nine bitterns are booming at RSPB Minsmere, the same as in 2004, and two at RSPB North Warren near Aldeburgh.

Reed bed, salt marsh, shingle beach and sand dune can all be found, and artificial lagoons, where water levels can be controlled.
The shoreline is good for waders; fl and bar-tailed godwit, dunlin, grey plover, ringed plover, redshank, sanderling, curlew, turnstone, and purple sandpiper can all be found while the sea needs searching for red-throated diver, eider, scoter, red-breasted merganser, goldeneye and the wonderful long-tailed duck.
Titchwell is a wonderful place to visit especially in winter when it is full of an interesting and varied array of birds.

With some time off work I decided it would be nice to go to RSPB Titchwell for some digiscoping.
Highlight was this male Ruff which showed well close to the main path.
A very showy Sedge Warbler perched by the entrance to one of the hides and sang right out in the open, until it was flushed.

In October 1998 when first meeting this group of students, I arranged a day trip to Titchwell.
Upon arriving at the reserve Steven the reserve warden welcomed us to the reserve, and brought along a telescope and tripod to assist in identifying some of the many species of birds we were to see that day.
Addition: The new boardwalk trail is an excellent accessible addition to the reserve.

On the way back home if possible go to WWF trust or RSPB Welney Washes sites, some miles inland but usually plenty to see, and round into Lincolnshire find time to give Freiston shore near Boston the going over.
Just up the road from Titchwell Choseley Barns was good for a few early morning ticks.
